Matthew 18:21-35
Matthew 18:18
John 20: 23

1. Definition of forgive:
1. Oxford Dic.
a. forgive – cease to feel angry or resentful toward another; pardon. Excuse; overlook; give mercy.

2. Bible Dic.
a. forgive – The expression to forgive sins means to remove the sins from another----Which only God can do this.
b. To forgive sins is not to disregard them and do nothing about them, but to liberate a person from them their guilt, and their power.

Let me make this statement more clearer: In the Our Father’s Prayer Matt. 6:12—And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
c. (We) are to ask God to:
1. forgive us our sins, our faults
2. meaning –we are asking God to:
3. remove them away from us so that we do not stand guilty of them or under their power.
4. We are never expected to forgive the sins of others, because we have no power to do so, but we are expected to forgive others.
B. Story:

We had a friend who raised and trained dogs. Some of his dogs were chained and kept in a cage and others were just kept in a cages. They were not allowed out to play with kids or to get any kind of affection from humans. And you probably think that this guy was cruel to his animals. We even accused him of being cruel to his animals. He trained them with a choke chain—a very short leash or chain leash. Whenever the dogs wanted to go a different way than the way he was leading them he would jerked their heads back around to follow his lead. Day in and day out he treated his dogs this way. He would not let anyone speak to his dogs or give them any commands. They were only allowed to hear and obey his commands. He was training them to be guard dogs. And when a potential buyer would come and choose the dog they wanted then and only then would he allow the dog to respond to the buyer.

Some of you have been trained the same way by Satan: He has put a chained of un-forgiveness around your neck. Others he has kept in a cage; unable to leave your cell of un-forgiveness. Some of you try to go a different direction from where he has been leading you, and every time you say you have forgiven someone, Satan snatches your head back around to remember why you shouldn’t and why you can’t forgive them. He is keeping you on a short leash or chain leash. Meaning he doesn’t give you much leash to roam away from his hand.

Today, I am going to give you spiritual keys that will set you free from Satan chains and cages of un-forgiveness.

I. Key #1. What Happens When You Don’t Forgive
II. Key #2. Who Do You Forgive?
III. Key #3. Why Do You Forgive?
IV. Key #4. How Do You Fogive?

I. Key #1. What Happens When You Don’t Forgive

A. It blocks and hinders your relationship with God. You can not hear God
clearly and you don’t grow spiritually. You are stuck in a rut.

1. Causes Resentment
2. Causes you to be angry
3. Causes you to become hateful
4. Causes you to become revengeful
5. Causes you to have murder in your heart.
6. Causes you to have a hard heart.

B. It brings sickness and death. Not forgiving a person is a sin of disobedience. God requires and commands that we forgive one another.

1. Un-forgiveness causes turmoil in your mind. You can’t think about anything else, but what that person has done to you. Every time you think of them you think of sin they committed towards you.

2. Un-forgiveness causes you to be sick. You don’t eat right. Some of you try to forget by drinking…which causes damage to your kidneys and liver. Some of you try drugs: legal and illegal drugs. After awhile they cause damage to you body and mind.

3. Un-forgiveness causes death. Some commit suicide. Some get to the place where they can no longer love others. They hide deeper in the shadow of their cages.

II. Key #2. Who Do You Forgive?

A. Yourself: The first person you probably have not forgiven is yourself.
More people lack forgiveness toward themselves than toward
Anybody else. When you forgive yourself then you can
Understand -- As far as the east is from the west, so far has He
removed our transgressions from us –(Ps. 103:12: )

If you are a believer, He has already cleansed your conscience
from dead works so that you might serve the living God (Heb.

B. God: There are some of you who have blamed God, because a child died; because a husband or wife ran away. Whether it was consciously or unconsciously you thought all these things were God’s fault. There is deep-seated resentment; however, you cannot be resentful toward God and experience an intimate relations with God. You got to rid yourself of this bitterness.

Question to ask yourself: Am I blaming God for my situation?

C. Family: You have to get rid of resentment towards those who are closets to you. Especially when there has been slights and resentments built up in and from family situations. Whether it be your husband, your wife, your children, your parents, etc.
All lack of forgiveness has to be eliminated.

D. Anybody else: Any one else that has done anything against you. Whether it be your boss, co-workers, church folks, or people in passing.

If you want to see heaven and you want the power of God flowing in your life, and you want that deeper relationship with God, then you have to forgive. Forgiveness is the key to breaking the hold of Satan on your life.

III. Key #3. Why Do You Forgive?

A. Three Reasons:

1. It is a condition that must be met in order for you to receive forgiveness from God.

a). Matt: 6:14-15 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 “But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

2. It is a condition that must be met in order for your
prevailing prayers or your prayers to be victorious.

a)_ Mark 11:25-26 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. 26 “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

3. It is a condition that must be met in order for you not to be bound to the person you have un-forgiveness for as well as not to bind the hands of God.

a) Matt: 18:18
Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven

John 20:23
If you forgive people’s sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.

IV. Key #4. How Do You Fogive?

Matt: 18:35
So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses."

The Good News Translation states it this way

And Jesus concluded, "That is how my Father in heaven will treat every one of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."

**********FORGIVE FROM YOUR HEART**********

This is a dynamic key!! Forgive from your heart.

Conclusion: We have been forgiving people only with the words of
Our mouths, not with our hearts. This is why we have still been in bondage to the unforgiveness of that person. Satan has kept our eyes blinded from seeing the truth forgiveness.

You must forgive the person from your heart!

Forgive them to the point where you actually fell yourself cleansed of resentment and bitterness

and are actually praying for them.

If you don’t, the chains Satan has of un-forgivenss will continue to hold you on a leash and in that cage. That cage where you are on display for every one to see.

Do you want to be free? Are you tired of being on that choke chain? Are tired of the cage you’re in?
Do you want to be made completely whole?

Are you ready for your relationship with God to be free of all the blockage and walls un-forgiveness has brought between you and your Father, God?

Come to the altar. It is time to get things right in your heart.

God wants you to be free. Come to his loving arms and cry out to him.

I am blessed that this message has touched not only your heart, but your spirit. I give all the glory to God. You and anyone else who would like to share or even preach this sermon are welcome to. So many people are living in unforgiveness and don't know how to let go. Let us keep them in prayer before God and continue to share the The Good News of Jesus Christ to them.
How awesome is our Father! He sets us free from the things we don't how to be free from or even know that we need the freedom. Thank you for sharing your awesome blessing through your testimony. Your heartfelt words touch my heart and I thank you. You took a big step admitting the unforgiveness to the person who had hurt you. That is when you know you are walking in the will of God. I read these words today may they be a blessing to you.

Exd 3:11 And Moses said unto God, Who [am] I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

Exd 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

I AM That I AM.
I the one who is hurting
I the one who is fearful
I the one who is lonely
I the one who is abused
I the one who has been abandoned
I the unforgiven
I the brokenhearted
I AM everything you need me to be. I AM everything that you seek. I AM everything you want.

You need a doctor....I AM your healer;
1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

You need peace....I AM Peace
Jhn 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Do you feel alone....I AM with you.
Jhn 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Always remember how special you are to the Lord God Almighty. You are His daughter. And he will be to you....I AM That I AM.

I will remember you in my prayers.

This is soo totally awesome!
I would love to hear more about the forgiving God part, if you could add more practical ways that this could happen I feel in my spirit you'll be a bigger blessing to people than the invention of hot sauce!

Many people silently blame God! Job does, I know we are indoctrinated with the erroneous belief that he didn't but he did! Read the whole book he definitely does. You really nailed the causes for this too, loss and unexplainable loss! I mean the move to even suggest we ought 4give God is genious in and of itself too! I'd love to hear your feedback!
And thanks for this wonderful sermon, I will preach it until the wheels fall off and never mention you as the author! (How's that for integrity!) lol I'm just kidding I won't steal your sermon, and if I do use some of it, I'll contact you and get your info so I can send you an offering! Bless ya
I thank you and I thank God for blessing you to read the sermon. I will seek God more on the part about forgiving God. This is a message that he gave me when I was ministering in a men's prison.

You have my permission to use all or part of the sermon. All I ask is that you listen to the Holy Spirit as you minister this sermon. You don't have to send me an offering. You will bless me more by keeping me in your prayers and preaching the Word. The Word of God. That is my blessing.

I'll send you what God gives me on "Forgiving God".

Be bless and have a safe and wonderful holiday and a prosperous New Year - spiritually and financially.

i was kidding, about stealing your sermon, though I will lift elements of it in forthcoming sermons. I intend on citing you. the discourse between us regarding sermon stealing inspired me to post a forum called "Preaching Plagerism and Piracy" Please read it and tell me what you think, go head be 1st to comment!
I knew you were kidding, about stealing the sermon. But I really did mean what I said...please feel free to share it. I liked and agreed with your forum. It was very insightful. I believe it could be used in teaching new ministers. We all need guidelines.

I am preaching tomorrow for my Pastor. So I must study/pray.

God bless you and keep up the good work God has given you. You are making a difference in peoples lives.

I did a forum on Do you have an overflow of Forgiveness? This is a powerful questions for the body to answer. We have to check or forgiving heart on a daily basis. It is said so loosely that " I forgive you." But are the issue really resolved in your heart. Forgivenss is not a surface thing. It is down in the heart, once the heart has been open. This opens up for the doors for unforgiveness in our lives. The Lord spoke to me that I should have an overflow of forgiveness. Because something that overflows never runs dry. I had to identify are the same issues still making me upset or mad. It it is , I have not forgive. I had to do a cleansing of all those that had hurt me and release them one by one. I guess my forgiveness at the time was on the surface, because I couldn't shake what was done to me. I allow the Lord to deal with me that I was willing to be free and clear of all the hurt and pain. I will put this back in the forum.
Thank you, I really needed that. Thank you and God bless you
I have not read all of your sermon, but what I have read so far has touched me. I am having a hard time forgiving certain people in my life. Not just my past but my present. I have also learned that if I don't forgive them truly, not by just merley saying it with words from my lips, but meaning it from the depth of my heart and my soul, I will never be in Christ where I want to be. I truly believe that if I continue to look and live in my past I will stay there. I can't move to the present if i continue to live in the past. I don't blame God, but I do question him, why? Why has he let this happen to me? Why must I go thru this? At times I have felt alone..but God has answered my many questions and prayers....God answered me..Why not you? I can say today that it was to make me stronger and be the woman of god that I am. Forgiving for me has not happen overnight, but it is happening. It is a process that God continues to show me in every situation that I was in, he was right there with me.
I have also learned that forgiving is a process, in order for me to forgive someone I must first ask God to forgive me. To open up my heart to be receptive of what he has for me once I am set free. I have cried out to God many nights for his mercy and grace just one more time. Whom god sets free is free indeed. keep me in your prayers...
I was really blessed by your post.
Thanks for forgiveness
