Black Preaching Network

Last night I went to a revival at a pentacostal church. The service was great. At the end of the service the guest preacher (elder) started prophesying over a few people. He prophesied over a young lady, and then he asked me if he could pray for me. I knew he was coming my way because before he called me out the Holy Spirt said, "he's coming your way next." So I let him pray for me. He then gave me a prophecy which was right on point. The things he said were things I had been thinking about. But then he begin to speak in tongues which threw me off a bit. We know what Paul says about speaking in tongues openly without an interpreter. (i'm still doing my homework about tongues). I've fellowshipped with non-denominational churches as well. I'm Baptist. Do any of you fellowship with other denominations? What was your experience like?

Rev. Luckett:

I am a member of a Baptist Church. But if you ask me, I am non-denominational! My father was Seven-Day Adventist and my mother was Baptist. We were raised Seven Day Adventist, until daddy had a fall out with the church. From 13 -18 years old, I was Baptist. My saying I was Baptist, only meant that I was going to a Baptist Church with my family because daddy made me go to church. In my heart, I was an Atheist! I had been one also in the Seven Day Adventist Church. I was one because of youthful rebellion, non belief, bad bible teachings and being given the image of a one sided God, who only punishes.

In 1980, Glory to God, this ex-Atheist was saved in college by a Pentecostal Preacher, who thought it not robbery to evangelize on college campuses. Believe me, I wasn’t easy to witness too. God set me up! When I confessed Christ as my Savior, I spoke in tongues that same night. This was the first time I was ever expose to Tongues and I didn’t know what was happening. I then joined Pentecostal Church and was a member of that denomination until 1993. God led me to a Baptist Church and than called me to preach. What a set up!

I told you all of that to say that speaking in tongues edifies the person. It is a Holy language between their spirit and God. The preacher may had to have his spirit refilled or edified since he poured so much of himself ministering to others. If he stood in front of the congregation and just spoke in tongues, I would say yes, there should be an interpreter. Unless he was singing in tongues (another topic). But if he was speaking while he was ministering, it was for his spirit. No interpretation needed.

Minister T, thanks for your comment. Yes, i'm in the baptist denomination, but I just consider myself a disciple of Christ. A believer in Jesus. Yes, God has a way of setting us up. But it's all to HIS Glory!

but that is "almost" borderline the same thing Rev Luckett...

yes we ALL need to think non denom but in reality like you stated as well as the woman of God above I think that you are affiliated with the Baptist denom and I am a follower of Jesus Christ as well BUT I am Church of God in Christ and some of our doctrine is different than Baptist. As well as some doctrine of the Baptist organization is different than AME. So if a person is apart of a denom and follows more than half of their doctrine that makes them that but they are strong enough mentally ( those who are ) to see something when its not right and NOT BE BOUND by their church or denom tactics...

when you join something ..so it is in the natural.. it shall be in the spiritual.... you link up with their belief system and you become "some" form of a product of your enviornment no matter how big or small it is still connected with you \ to you.

Blessings...

I agree with you about denomination, Sister Coleman. I also believe that denomination can be used to divid the Kingdom of God. In the end, it will be One God and one Heaven. We all may feel pretty silly about the things we used to seperate us from one another in the Kingdom. Our ways are not God ways in often the case.

Minister T, i totally agree.. because the "Kingdom" holds no segregation.. i was merely trying to expound upon the different organizations because from what I understaood was he was saying that he is non denom but he is apart of Baptist.. which is fine.. but you will become a product of your enviorment..

I am fully aware of Kingdom and what we may think God wants is really most times is what WE want.. because we do operate in the flesh more so than in the spirit regardless as the sons and daughters of the most high wants to admit it or not..

but thank you for your reply

what I was saying, i'm baptist, but I don't allow that to limit my worship with other denominations as long as they are Christ centered.

yes it has.. because if " we are ALL Kingdom" minded.. why are there soooooooo many different sects of us? ... again... "another man made" thing........

it depends on how the tounges were used... if he was walking by and felt something by way of the spirit.. interpretation does NOT have to be done.. especially if it was God who was instructing him \ telling him something about something \ someone or EVEN himself...

people who go off on tangents via tounges.. now that is different.. but while in service and you feel the holy ghost and it causes you to quicken and apart of it is a quick kingdom language that lasted for 5 seconds.. why would someone have to interpret that?

and remember.. in scripture.. " paul said " timothy said.. etc.. it is their views " added in as well " as the body i think that we forget about that.. just as he talks about it is better to marry than to burn.. so what do some immature couples do as well as immature pastors \ leaders.. they force couples \ encourage couples for the sake of "legal sex"...

but that was "Paul's" opinion... yes sin no more.. BUT before i tell you to marry so you can stop sinning.. i will first deal with the couple individually because there is a non control issue first... that is why the marriage is being rushed.. because THEY CANT CONTROL THEMSELVES.. THEIR ACTIONS ETC... control yourself which will calm down and loose anything extra.. and while you are learning how to control "yourself" and not your feelings.. using your mind and not your temptaions.. it will give both parties a better and calmer view and they may even realize ( if given the chance ) that in the long run - via the bog picture that they are not MEANT TO BE TOGETHER LET ALONE MARRIED.....

PEACE BE STILL!

Rev Luckett,
I've been in that situation, because as yourself I regularily fellowship with other denominations. Now the question is,when the spirit said here he comes was there a feeling of uneasiness.Great spirits as yourself radiates the spirit of God,and the spirit drew near.If the reflections of the [elder] was in line with what you had been considering in thought,I would say then it was time to go back to God in prayer because your answer is near. But as yourself sometimes we have to be careful of who we let lay hands on us.As far the elder speaking in tonges, the Holy Spirit translates, the utterances of the spirits to God if deemed appropiate, other than that it's just babblings.Hey if God could use a jackass,I believe that if someone of a different denomination you believe is christian, the least we could do is take it to God in prayer. We are all of the Body just different members.I know you filed this a while ago but it's still a relavent conversation!
