ACCEPTING CHRIST AS YOUR PERSONAL SAVIOUR - What scripture is that?

This modern tradition of telling people they are saved if they ACCEPT JESUS as their personal saviour is ridiculous.

Hahahahah! - now tell me WHY I am wrong.

I used to attend His Crusades years ago and Years later God lead me into more Truth That being saved is more than a feeling! Or Just accepting him!

"... The fact of the matter is, your mind was already made up to refute my explanation pertaining to salvation and baptism. It was, as I see it, a cheap mind game..."

It was a cheap mind game because I was resting on the scriptures that commanded people be baptized?
I am confused about that.

Why are you so upset that I dont agree that a prayer is not what enough - according to Jesus and the apostles/
Thats odd. But thats Ok.
I will continue to rest on what the way ancient church did things - not the new doctrines of men.
"...Billy Graham has brought more people to Christ than you ever will..."

Brother Watson,

Does Billy Graham's way trump Jesus' way of remitting sins.

Jesus demanded that his disciples go out into the world preaching the gospel and baptizing but Billy Graham came up with a prayer. Please consider these words of the God you serve:

6- ***Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition***...

8-This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9- But ***in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.***
Bro Watson,

I just read your postings on page 8.

Wow thank you.....I get it. I get it.

I DONT have to get baptized - all I must do is pray - and the Campus Crusade for Christ organization's prayer is formulated so that it hits all of the things I need to pray about for salvation.

Thats fantastic.
I dont know why the church wasted its time on listening to Jesus telling His people to go out and baptize and what was up with Peter - telling those new believers to get baptized and I dont know why Paul insisted that the men he met that were already believers in Jesus - that they had to get baptized.

It was confusing before but now I understand that some of the instructions from Jesus and the apostles were nice - but NOT necessary.

Thank you...keep up the good work ;-)
I am glad that you are trying to learn Brother Watson... Your kicking against the word has taught me some things in the Bible looking for the scriptures to show you we were still to keep the commandments. So you are correct, we are all here to learn as well as teach.
Romans 2:20-25 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
"...I do want to say that I am not against water baptism. I was immersed in physical water too.

O my, You could have fooled me, brother...

"...But I was saved before I was immersed. The ordinance of water baptism was external evidence of my internal witness and transformation..."

Where does it say that when Peter told the men to baptized it was external evidence of my internal witness and transformation?
That explanation is s so contemporary, its so American.

Do you tell people that they must repent and be baptized for the remission of their sins?
Newview,

In order to understand Baptism.. Read the Torah. Its for ritual purification. The Mikvah, which is Hebrew for Baptism, NEVER meant to literally wash away anything, rather, you were "ritually" clean by being immersed in the Mikvah.
The baptism of water was prophetic, pointing to the baptism of the Holy Spirit, as the Prophet John the Baptist stated clearly:

Matthew 3:11 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:"

Acts 1:5 "For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."
Bro Watson,

If someone came to you and said I want to be saved - what do you tell them they must do?

Repent and say the Sinners Prayer ?
Repent and be baptized ?
I didnt say that I would not address them Bro Watson.

I just asked a real quick question - Do you tell people that they must repent and be baptized for the remission of their sins? Or do you tell them they MUST say the Sinners Prayer for the remissions of their sins?
I am very, very disappointed in you. I asked you a series of pertinent questions, and yet you decided to focus on the very last statement I made, which wasn't a question at all!

Don't feel bad, it seems to be the regular with people here on BPN. You gotta fight to get a clear answer sometimes....
