Bishop Ron Allen, What Would Jesus Do As It Pertains To Drug Users and What Are You Doing?

Bishop Ron Allen, who is also the pastor of Greater Solomon Community Church in Oak Park, California, seems to have been appointed the public Black opposition to California’s Proposition 19 to legalize and regulate marijuana. He has been a vocal critic of Alice Huffman who is the NAACP president of its California chapter and who has expressed support for Proposition 19 as a civil rights issue because young Blacks are targeted by law enforcement and has lead to a disproportionate amount of them being imprisoned for non-violent marijuana possession charges. Bishop Ron Allen has called for her resignation, which is highly unlikely since her position is shared by former NAACP chair Julian Bond who said, “Blacks are targeted”. The NAACP has been concerned about Drug Policy since the 1990s but has not been as vocal on the issue until now.

The statistical data from every state shows that Blacks are arrested, prosecuted and sent to prison for marijuana possession more than any other ethnic group. Many advocates for ending what the U.S. government has termed the “Drug War” which in reality is a war against drug addicts, say that drug addiction is a health issue and not a criminal one.

A person named Dr. Blouin consecrated Bishop Ron Allen in 2008 as a “Bishop of the Gospel Jesus Christ” because of “faithfulness” according to Bishop Allen’s website. However, there appears to be a conflict between the teachings and acts of Jesus recorded in scripture and Bishop Ron Allen’s actions. Bishop Ron Allen was recently asked in a email about what Jesus would do pertaining to sick people like drug addicts. Bishop Allen replied, “I am not a religious man, I have a relationship with God”.

Perhaps the question should have been phrased clearer, what did Jesus do when it came to sick people? We know from Biblical scripture exactly what Jesus did as it pertains to people with all types of afflictions.

Matthew 4:23-25 - Jesus (after calling the brothers Simon Peter and Andrew, and James and John to be his disciples, and before the Sermon on the Mount) now moved about through the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news about the kingdom, and healing every disease and disability among the people. His reputation spread throughout Syria, and people brought to him all those who were ill, suffering from all kinds of diseases and pains - including the devil-possessed, the insane and the paralysed. He healed them, and was followed by enormous crowds from Galilee, The Ten Towns (Decapolis), Jerusalem, Judea and from beyond the river Jordan.

Another troubling aspect as it pertains to a “Bishop of the Gospel of Jesus Christ” is his alliances with law enforcement associations that for various reasons want Proposition 19 to be defeated in November. A few law enforcement agencies are listed as “partners” of Bishop Ron Allen. They are the California Police Chiefs Association, California State Sheriffs Association and California Narcotics Officers Association.

It is important to note that not every member or former members of law enforcement in California agree with Bishop Ron Allen’s opposition to Proposition 19.

Proposition 19, also known as the Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010, which will be on the November 2, 2010 California statewide ballot as an initiated state statute is endorsed by:

• San Jose Police Chief Joseph McNamara (Ret.)
• Seattle Police Chief and San Diego Deputy Police Chief Norm Stamper (Ret.)
• Former Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Stephen Downing
• Former Los Angeles Police Department Sergeant and former Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney William John Cox
• Former Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriff David Sinclair
• Humboldt County Sheriff’s Captain Stephen Cobine (Ret.)
• Former Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff MacKenzie Allen
• Former Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff Jeff Studdard
• Former Sutter County Deputy Sheriff Nate Bradley
• Former Yolo County Resident Deputy Sheriff Danny Maynard
• Former Deputy Sheriff Leo E. Laurence, J.D., Central Missouri
• Orange County Superior Court Judge James P. Gray (Ret.)
• Humboldt County District Attorney Paul Gallegos
• San Francisco District Attorney Terence Hallinan (Ret.)
• Former Senior Humboldt County Deputy District Attorney and Prosecutor Jeffrey Schwartz
• Former Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney and California Administrative Law Judge Mike Schmier
• Riverside County Deputy District Attorney Walter Clark (Ret.)
• Former Orange County Senior Reserve Park Ranger L. Lawrence Baird
• Oakland City Attorney John Russo
• Former Community Prosecutor James Anthony, Oakland City Attorney’s Office
• Los Angeles Police Department Narcotics Detective David Doddridge (Ret.)
• Former San Jose Police Department Narcotics Detective Russ Jones
• Former Los Angeles Senior Police Specialist Walter McKay
• California Correctional Peace Officer William Baldwin (Ret.)
• California Correctional Peace Officer Madeline Martinez (Ret.)
• Former Military Police Officer Dr. Nina Graves, Santa Barbara, CA
• Mohave County Deputy Probation Officer Joe Miller (Ret.)
• Former Lakeport Police Officer Rick Erickson
• Former San Francisco Police Officer Bill Dake
• Former Stanton Police Officer Jerry Ross
• Former Torrance Police Officer Kyle Kazan

Bishop Ron Allen claims that he is concerned about the Black community as it relates to drug addiction but it is interesting that the National Black Police Association which has had some of its members suffer from on the job racial discrimination across the nation, where listed as being more concerned about the impact of current drug policy. In an national ad that appeared in the National Review, The New Republic, the Weekly Standard, The Nation, Reason Magazine, The Progressive and Mother Jones, the National Black Police Association’s name appeared among many other organizations advocating change in drug policy. The ad further stated, “Funding must be shifted away from interdiction and incarceration – towards treatment and prevention.”

They say a picture is worth a thousands words and one can not help but notice the absence of Black police officers standing with Bishop Ron Allen as he stood at a podium rallying against Proposition 19.

At no time in scripture does it tell a story about Jesus standing with the Roman authorities in support of policies used to persecute an oppressed population. In fact, scripture does say that the Jewish authorities persecuted Jesus as he ate with and ministered to “sinners”.

Mark 2:16-17- And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said to his disciples, How is it that he eats and drinks with publicans and sinners? When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

In light of Biblical scripture, it would appear that Bishop Ron Allen, who according to his own website was appointed by man to be a “Bishop of the Gospel of Jesus Christ” needs to reevaluate his “relationship with God” and do what the scripture command Pastors to do in ministering to “lost sheep” instead of acting like “religious teachers of the law” who persecuted Jesus for healing a man on the Sabbath and sought to trap Jesus for not condemning “law breakers”.

Mark 3:1-6 - On another occasion (after the cornfield incident) when he went into the synagogue, there was a man there whose hand was shrivelled, and they (the Pharisees) were watching Jesus closely to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath day, so that they might bring a charge against him. Jesus said to the man with the shrivelled hand, "Stand up and come out here in front!" Then he said to them, "Is it right to do good on the Sabbath day, or to do harm? Is it right to save life or to kill?" There was a dead silence. Then Jesus, deeply hurt as he sensed their inhumanity, looked round in anger at the faces surrounding him, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand!" And he stretched it out, and the hand was restored as sound as the other one. The Pharisees walked straight out and discussed with Herod's party how they could have Jesus put out of the way.

Bishop Ron Allen publicly admits that he smoked marijuana and blames marijuana, not his on human failings and weakness, for his later addiction to crack cocaine. His website does not list what period in his life he was addicted to drugs as there is a gap in his bio from the time he pastured his first church at the age of twenty-six in 1984 to 1989 and did not pastor another church until he took over his father’s church in 1994 that he left in 1999. It was in 2000 that it says he founded “Alcohol and Addict Ministry 5 step of deliverance” which was turned over to his brother in-law in 2002. There are no references on his website as to what those five steps are or if they included incarceration in prison. There is also no available information on whether or not Bishop Ron Allen spent anytime in prison during his addiction to drugs.

Again, we must ask what Jesus did when confronted with questions about what to do with persons found breaking the law.

John 8:1-15 - Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true. Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go. Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

While not sitting in judgment of Bishop Ron Allen but of his current course of action in upholding an injustice system and its discriminatory application of what many feel are unjust laws, we must ask ourselves why he sits in judgment of young Black men and women who are addicted to marijuana or any other substances. Why is Bishop Ron Allen so willing despite the evidence, to see them sent to prison where they become slave labor for America’s private prison industrial complex? Bishop Ron Allen accused Alice Huffman and the NAACP of taking money from advocates who are against the current drug policy. We should be asking Bishop Ron Allen to publically disclose what organizations he has taken money from to go on a campaign in support of existing drug laws and opposition to California’s Regulate, Control and Tax Cannabis Act of 2010 known as Proposition 19. What "faith" is Bishop Ron Allen and his International Faith Based Coalition basing their actions on as it pertains to those who use marijuana?

We definitely need to rise up and fight against these drug policies. From all you have said about this Bishop Ron Allen, he seems more like an accidental uncle Tom. He may mean well but I think he's be programmed according to the American social culture and basically assimilated to be blind to the real issues of what they deem to be illegal drugs. Making MJ legal would mean that it would no longer be an illegal drug. If you have a problem with this it is because you believe MJ is a harmful substance more than other LEGAL intoxicants... or... you don't want change. You just want things to stay the same.

Most critics of marijuana haven't actually smoked it and don't know much or anything about it. Marijuana has many benefits. My own knowledge is limited as I have only smoked a few times starting this year. It has a very calming effect on the mind and enhances any attempt at meditation. You get a mental clarity that is out of the ordinary.

Why is it illegal to smoke marijuana and not cigarettes which are WELL KNOWN to be addictive and a cancer causing health hazard, even to people who aren't smokers themselves! And how can this bishop crusade against the thing that black people do and not the regular smoking that is done legally? And what about beer? Does he speak publicly about them? Is he working on legislation to ban these items? How many European boys would be in prison if they couldn't drink alcohol? How many lives would it save just to out law alcohol altogether and stop drunk drivers before they even drink? But we have African Americans, so conditioned, so abused, so mentally raped, so programmed and assimilated into European culture and society that they cannot see that making weed illegal isn't for the purpose of helping us. Whatever fears people may have about smoking weed is it really worth the amount of young african american men who will have their lives stripped away? Who will be educated in the penal (in both senses of the word) system?

AND WHO WILL STILL DRINK AND SMOKE WHEN THEY GET OUT??

We need to stand up against these laws and help anyone who is trying to do away with these laws. Banks can legally take advantage of us, presidents have gotten into office on drug money, oh but we can't smoke weed. It might stop us from being the best slaves.... I mean employees. How much control are you going to tolerate from your oppressor? And why do we believe him so much when he tells us what's right and what's wrong? They don't even have the same concept of right and wrong. For them, illegal is not wrong. It's just illegal. It's an illegal move in a game. But we think the best way to play the game is by their rules; rules they pay a lot of money to change. When will we learn this?

shalom
While I do not advocate the use of any substance, neither do I condemn those who partake. As you stated MJ has many medicinal benefits and studies have shown it to be effective in preventing breast cancer, neck cancer and jaw cancer. It used to give those afflicted with HIV/AIDs an appetitive as well as those who undergo chemo treatment for cancer to keep there strength up. The pharmacutical industry lobbies against it because it would mean less sick people afflicted with concer and if it is legal and not just for medicinal use, people can grow there own for personal use.

I have done so more digging into the Bishop background and he is a Catholic Bishop who was recruited nine months ago by a white man named John Redman.

Puppet Master John Redman

I have been trying to get the Bishop on my program to debate me but he has yet to accept. Well he did accept but when found how knowledgeable I was on the topic, his handlers would not allow him to come on. I offered to host a debate between Mr. Neiil Franklin of LEAP and John Redman, Franklin is ready to go, have not heard back from his people. They then told me that the Bishop was recruited to speak out from the faith perspective, I asked what scripture has he qouted in any of the interviews he has given, he is speaking to this from a law enforcement perspective and from the perspective of someone formerly addicted to crack. I offered to debate him on it as it relates to Biblical scripture, still not word on whether he will accept. So it seems clear to me that they are more than happy to spew propaganda instead of participate in a real discussion or debate with people who disagree with them.
I would love to hear him try to compare marijuana to crack. Maybe you could at least ask him to submit a public statement that you can read on your show.

And ask him about cigarettes and alcohol and why he hasn't fought against those things being legal and ask him to compare those things with marijuana. I would be very interested in hearing that.
He is a member of this site. Do a search on his name to find his profile.
