BREAKING SOUL TIES
CLEAVING - A QUALITY OF THE SOUL
The origin of the soul and its purpose do show us its importance.The place of the soul in victory walk of the life of the believer has not often been emphasized in the church.It is not an overemphasis to state that the degree og freedom you enjoy as a believer is dependent on the state of your soul.
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and
be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.(111 John 2)
Apostle John ties our prosperity (having God's divine provision in all areas of our lives) to the degree of the prosperity of our souls.
We need to understand the QUALITIES of the human soul.For the purpose of this study,a qualitythat prominently features in the soul will be highlighted.
And his soul CLAVE unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he
loved the damsel, and he spoke kindly unto the damsel. (All
emphasis mine) (Genesis 34:3)
And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto
Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was KNIT with the soul of David,
and Jonathan loved him as his soul (1 Samuel 18:1)
Looking closely at both verses of scripture, a certain quality of the soul stands out. The Word CLAVE in Hebrew, according to STRONG'S CONCORDANCE, is DABAQ which means TO IMPING or TO CLING or ADHERE. Similarly, the Word KNIT is from a Hebrew word QASHER which means TO TIE. Basically, both words mean the same thing, and that is to tie,to cling to adhere and to cleave. We therefore note thatb the soul has a quality that enables it to cling to something,someplace,someone,some event or situation.
The two examples that we see in both verses above are those of individuals who had their souls clinging to some other person. In clinging, we are saying that the soulish faculties of the mind; the will and emotions adhere. It is not unsual to hear somebody say, "I am hopelessly in love with...." I can't help myself ..." " I can't help but think of..."
All these statements are products of a soul tie. The will, mind and emotions are so ties up to the person,thing,event place or situation that one cannot separate oneself from them.
This quality of the soul is intended to help us achieve success in life.It is rare to find a student passing an examination without being tied to his academic pursuit. It is impossible to find a true home where this is absent in marriage. No ministry bears fruit untill this kind of tie exists to the vision.Soul tie is therefore a vital quality that enables us achieve our dreams and desires.
This is why Isaac Newton forgot to eat his meals on several occasions because of a soul tie to his pursuit.Our potentials are therefore released this way.
THE NEGATIVE SOUL TIE
Since we have now established that man's soul is the means God has established to release man's potentials. We need to look at the present state of man since the fall.
Something tragic occurred when man sinned and consequently fell. God spoke that the day man eats of the fruit he shall surely die. The force of death fastened itself on man's spirit,soul and body from that moment of sin.
The soul of man deteriorated at the fall because the force of death fastened itself on it. That explains why the psalmist in the spirit of revelation pronounced that for God to completely fulfill His role as our shepherd, He has to restore our souls.(Psalm 23) The word restore means to bring back again to as close as possible to the original state and form. It makes it quite clear that man's soul must have deteriorated for there to be a need for a restoration.
Man's soul clinging to meaningful pursuits would enhance him and release his potential. What we find now is that a lot of families have been ruined because somebody has his soul clinging to alcohol,drugs, gambling or even extra marrital affairs. This is a negative soul tie that must be broken. I recall an incident that took place awhile back, a girl was raped at a very tender age by some boys. It was such a sharp and traumatic incident for her. Despite the fact that she had grown up and virtually forgotten about the incident, she could not enjoy normal relations with her husband.This was a problem for her untill that tie was broken by the power of God.
Most of the qualities and manifestations of the soul are in the uncounscious and subcounscious realm. We may therefore not realize that there is a negative tie to an event,experience,person or place that is preventing us from enjoying life at its best.
I have had to minister to people who because of a past setback,failed relationship, an accident, a failed academic pursuit have been tied to to these experiences. God's Word can give us true liberty.It is important to know that just like there is a negative soul tie we can also have a positive soul tie.This way we can give our best to our spouses,career,family and even the ministry.

Good soul tie teaching....one of the best books I have read on this topic is from Liberty Savard entitled "Shattering Strongholds"
