Do you believe that a person that is call to preach should wait on their ministry? Is God pleased?

I don't believe that God would call a novist to lead a flock, when the novist needs to be taught how to lead. I have seen an experienced so many Pastors' who are unlearned leading people in the wrong directions. But it does not seem to matter to human's because they are still ordaining people who are not ready to lead. A great leader must be a great follower. I don't think that God is pleased by this because of the simple fact that David was called at a young age (17) but had to wait on his calling, he was (30)? I believe this leads to church folks because the team is only as good as it leaders. Every where you go you will find people just going through the motions because we have sat back and studied other peoples', praise, worship and have adapted to human ways and not God.

It;s a must to follow the instructions given to you by God.Being raised in church,a catholic grade school 1-8,being ordained in two different faiths,working in the world with authority over lives,i developed a strong since of right and wrong.But in the end when my calling came 6yrs ago,i was confused,because the Lord told me,i would minister a church at 50.I was;nt sure if it was God are was I trying to repent for my worldly actions.It was God,(HE )ordained me a minister and sent me on my way to learn His discipline for me.The world and man can give you authorization to proceed,but truly only God,can release you! I;ve been a minister for 6yrs now,ministering through giving of myself,community and where ever else HE sent me.I;ve learned so much from where GOD sent me to be than any man could teach me.I;ve had opportunities to pastor,and i sat in that place,knowing if it was God it would happen,but it did;nt HE told me 50.After my work was done where i was He shifted me.Now opportunities are in place and HE;S moving me closer.But now i;ve had so much fun,being (part) of leadership i;m going to miss,soildiering,but i might not have too.HE will be pleased knowing you;re heeding HIS word,and moving at HIS pace, not your own!(2PETER1:10) WHEREFORE THE RATHER,BRETHEN,GIVE DILIGENCE TO MAKE YOUR CALLING AND ELECTION SURE;FOR IF YE DO THESE THINGS,YE SHALL NOT FALL;
God Bless Minister OGAgnew:

You said that God told you this 6 years ago, did you go right into Pastoring or did you wait for the knowledge. It seems to me that you waited on God and some knowledge from man. It does not appear that you went straight from the streets to pastoring? Romans 12:6-8 tell you to wait on your ministering. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering; or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.

The one thing I am sure if if the Bible states it it is the truth. It is according to how we perceive or exegete the Bible.

May God continally Bless You

Paul, in 1 Tim 3, gives instruction for the selection and appointment of bishops and deacons. There is one verse, however, that stands good for any church leader, that is verse 6, do not appoint an untrained man to a position of leadership, that is, appoint "Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil .(a novice: or, one newly come to the faith)."

Can a person be trained up only by the Spirit and not of men? Yes! For example, it took Paul only 14 years to be fully trained and approved of by the other Apostles (2 Corinthians 12:2-12 & Galatians 2:1-10), and before his "Spirit lead" training, he already possessed an expert's knowledge and understanding of scripture, being a doctor of the law, a schooled Pharisee, plus having a direct experience of Jesus and given visions of heavenly things. Even so, I suspect that pastors, bishops and deacons (all elders) may not require such intense spiritual training as Paul had to uindergo, but the requirement not to appoint a novice to a position of spiritual authority still stands as very good advice (instruction).
I agree whole-heartedly,but i truly believe to rush to preach,is to cheapen those you want to serve. My life experiences, role models, mentors and THE WORD,has prepared me.With the state of the church today, the best way to minister or pastor now is to do like Jesus did,hit the streets, because lots of people at this point don;t want to see a basket in thier face for donations, they want us to pour into them, not into a building.Great response Bro.Bowman,God Bless!!
I totally agree with you,and Ithank God for your sharing of knolwedge, and how well you just exegeted the scriptures. In the KJV ITim. 3:6 uses the word novice "Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil." I believe that novice is in correlation to untrained depending on the translation.

Yes God told me 6 yrs ago,i have never pastored a church,i;ve been involed with street ministry, community activities, elderly support groups etc.I had the chance to,but never sat in that seat.Thats why i responded to your post,i;ll be 50,in a few months, and with the knowledge i;ve gain, the wisdom shared with me,i would have no problem.I have made sure over these years,in my walk ,to have in place spiritual accountability, shared enthutiastic peolpe, and constant prayer and challenges to me and those i align myself with. These years i;ve waited has made me a stronger christian,if i pastor or not.
Thank you all for your words of encouragement.

What I was sharing was my own desire of 35 years ago, when I was first called of God into ministry. I wanted to run right out and open up a storefront church. Thank God for men and women who counseled me to sit down and shut up! Now, that I have had some time to mature in the Spirit, in my faith, and in some wisdom of my years, I have finally taken to myself the title of "Serious Student of The Word of God".

With time getting so short, I was afraid that perhaps Jesus would return before I had a chance to "make my name" in ministry. How foolish I was, and how little I have actually matured since then. Just enough to know for a certainty that I really don't know very much and that pride lurks at my elbow! Yet, now I am free to share what little I have gleaned from the word and time spent with our Lord, and my continued basking in the company of godly men and women who were/are free in sharing their knowledge, wisdom and the foundations of their faith with the likes of me.

To the young (new) "want-a-be" preachers: Calling comes before the doing. Be patient, remain teachable, and remember that you will never have all of the answers. Therefore, when necessary, be prepared to answer questions with an honest, "I don't know." You will gain the respect of men, do no violence to the scriptures, and you will merit the approval of God Himself.

Finally. If you find yourself at "center stage", remember this: Every bit of glory (recognition, acclaim, honor, i.e. to be held in a state of high honor) that you receive from men, that is the amount of attention you have diverted away from Jesus and placed upon yourself - glory you have stolen from our Lord. We are commanded to make disciples of men unto Jesus, not ourselves. Ref. James 3:1, My brethren, be not many masters [teachers], knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.(heavier judgment) [KJV]

You are right, All I can say is WoW!!! God has really blessed you with experience and knowledge.I would like to absorb more of the knowledge that God has blessed you to have.I can learn a lot from you as the Holy Spirit leads, guide and direct you into all truths.

I do not agree with leaders just waking up one morning, saying "GOD/the Prophet of GOD told me to become a Minister yesterday at church, so I'm gonna do it", and by next week they have their website and a following. There is training needed. One thing I do know though, is that GOD's training for leaders has often been O.J.T. You do not have to sit for 15 years to before being placed into ministry leadership.

You said that David was called at 17 and waited till 30 for his leadership position. Lets not forget that the time in between running from King Saul. The people that became his most trusted officers were the ones that were led by him during those years of running. His training as a king came from his experience leading soldiers.
You are absolutely right, on all points! There is no set or prescribed time nor method for training any minister. It depends on the individual, the specific calling/ministry, and the place(s) of ministry. There is no "cookie cutter" method of training or time line.

Those pastors (folks in leadership) who makes a person sit and wait to be used in some learning/serving capacity, unless personally directed to do so by the Spirit, is doing a disservice to both the one who is called and to the Spirit that called him/her, even to those who should be receiving the ministered service. The fifteen years Paul spent being instructed by the Spirit was not spend sitting on the roadside doing nothing. He ministered as the Spirit lead - one step at a time. Those in leadership positions should keep that lesson in mind.
Generations have been told "sit down and learn somethin' boy", however the LORD called for them to do and experience more. The greatest teaching tool GOD uses is experience.

In Martial Arts, the student that learned a specific technique the best and the fastest was usually the "test dumby". When I learned Shotokan as a child, it wasn't the verbal instructions that did it for me; it was when my instructor (who was my father) would grab my joint and squeeze, or toss me and I land flat on my back, or strike me in a place, and allow me to do the same. You could read a book about how much damage you can inflict, but its a whole different story when you feel it first hand. Likewise, I have heard about casting out demons and healing the sick, and miracles, but it wasn't until I cast out my first demon, it wasn't until when I laid hands on a blind eye, and it wasn't until when I decreed some things over a female's womb that I understood. MANIFESTATION is often missing in the Seminary that your Minister selects for you to be trained up in.

Nothing wrong with training, but every soldier gets to shoot off their gun before they go to war, and in ancient days, the warrior tribes like the Spartans would allow their soldiers to experience a kill before they placed them in the army, not after, otherwise, they may freeze up on the field.
