As the November election draws near, there's one President everyone can agree on — Abraham Lincoln. A new Movie for Lincoln aired during last night's Presidential debate, offering a longer and more detailed look at director Steven Spielberg's biopic about the sixteenth President of the United States.
Based on Doris Kearns Goodwin's book, Team of Rivals, the movie concentrates "on the last four months of Abraham Lincoln's life," and the contentious war if wills between Lincoln (played by Daniel Day-Lewis) and his cabinet — many of whom ran against Lincoln for the 1860 Presidential nomination — as the President fought to end the Civil War in victory, preserve the Union and worked towards abolition. The first trailer for the movie concerned itself more with the majesty of Lincoln as President, filled as it was with John Williams' moving score. The extended TV spot juxtaposes Lincoln's speech with modern-day leaders and war-time imagery, and shows more of Lincoln struggling to convince that his view of America was the right one.
