Transcendence means existing in a sphere or mode beyond that of other beings.  We speak of God as existing in another dimension.  Another dimension means a dimension other than the three that humans can perceive.  A dimension as seen by a human is a measurable extent such as length, width, depth.  We call this a three dimensional object, there is the 3-D craze in most movie outlets for example.  How high (height) is a dimension.  How wide something is, is another dimension.  How thick from front to back is another dimension.  The human mind functions in a three dimensional world.

The transcendence of God is closely related to his sovereignty. It means that God is above, other than, and distinct from all he has made - he transcends it all.  A fourth dimension was assumed by a few mathematical scientist.  It involved time and space and was called "the relativity of time and space" and energy was included in this theory.  Now some scientist are saying that there is a fifth and maybe even a sixth dimension.  Any dimension beyond the first three is beyond the comprehension of most people.

God exist in a dimension beyond the one that human beings are in.  Transcendence means that although God exists in another dimension He can transcend down to our dimension.   God has the power to move from one dimension to another at His will.  The apostle Paul says that there is "one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 4: 6).   Scripture says elsewhere, "For you, O LORD, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far
above all gods (Psalms 97: 9; cf. 108: 5).  In conclusion, God occupies all dimensions at the same time.

Isn't it fair to say that Christianity affirms both the immanence and transcendence of God: that God operates both "within" and "outside" of creation? As best I can wrap my mind around this seeming paradox, I take it that the transcendent God can chose to interact with creation so as to manifest his "presence" at any time or place, and that for the "duration" of this immanence, He yields Himself the constraints of space and time.
