The "Head Push Fall Down" is a common practice in many churches today.  Does it involve mind control techniques, hypnotism and counterfeit (demonic) spirits?  Is the church patron under such pressure to fall down when (cued) that when the head is pushed back they are simply following an accepted standard or routine.

Personally I laid hands on a few people without pushing on their heads and they fell down to the ground.  I feel that they were under peer (social) pressure to behave in this manner similiar to training a dog into learning how to behave.

Maria Woodworth-Etter (1844-1924) the trance evangelist.  Her ministry manifestations began in 1885 years before the Azusa Revival." She received a spiritual renewal at a "Friends" meeting in 1879. So basically what we have is a woman, who received some type of spiritual power from a Quaker meeting. Keep in mind that the Society of Friends, the Quakers, were originally a non-orthodox sect. She would go into trances, people came to her while she was in a trance state and allegedly got "saved." She had the ability to lay hands on others and place them in a similar trance-state.

The practice was not was widespread in Pentecostal circles after her death until the advent of another woman minister named Aimee Semple McPherson (1890-1944). She was a traveling evangelist and she too had people fall out under the power in her ministry.  She was very controversial and she founded the Foursquare Gospel denomination, she died of a barbiturate overdose in 1944. To this day charismatic believers ignore the fact that she was divorcee, most likely faked her own kidnapping in order to spend time in an adulterous liaison (1926), and then died of a drug overdose.

The next major figure whose ministry was earmarked by multitudes being slain in the spirit was Kathryn Khulman (1907-1976). Kathryn committed adultery with a married man, who left his wife and children to marry Kathryn. A few years later Kathryn divorced him and never remarried.

Her ministry was international in scope. Well received by almost all Pentecostals and the fledgling charismatic renewal movement of the 1960's. She is the individual responsible for popularizing the practice of slaying people in the spirit which became common in almost all charismatic churches to this day.

Good information. Thank u for sharing.

Head Pushing & Falling Down: The devil wants you to fall back instead of falling on your face prostrate before the Lord. Falling forward is a sign of reverence before the King. John 18:6, "As soon then as he had said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground." Here we have people coming to apprehend Jesus. They fell backward symbolizing that they were not able to take Jesus' life instead he gave his life as a willing sacrifice. The term "fall back" shows that an opposing (military) force was unable to win in battle. Whenever Jesus healed someone he told them to get up and not to fall backward down to the ground.

I think if people stop pushing people they'll notice that a lot fo them fall sideways or forward; not many fallbackwards. I've seen people try to push people down. They assume that just because they are laying hands that the person should always fall. That is not the point of laying hands. If all theyw ant is for people to fall, then they need to go back tot he altar. Demons know how to fall, so them falling is nothing if their life is not changed, if their body or spirit is not restored, and most importantly, if God is not in it and does no speak!

I've seen people so accustomed to people falling backwards that they always stand behind a person when they are getting prayed for and then I see the person fall another way and they are all shocked and unprepared for it.

What's biblical about being "slain in the spirit"? What edification does the believer get from this?

The bible gives us a multitude of instances where people have fallen down as a form of worship.

Esther 8:3, "And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears..."

Job 1:20, "Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,"

Matthew 18:26, "The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all."

You say, "What edification does the believer get from this?"  I guess the same edification that a person receives when they raise holy hands in worship.  I think there is a difference between someone voluntarily falling under their own power in worship versus supposedly falling under supernatural power at the direction of a man or woman (slain in the spirit)?  Is it demonic power?  What spirit is doing the slaying?

I know people who have falling under the power of God without the leading or directing of man.  An inmate at Angola (LA State Penitentiary) told the minister that if he crossed the line towards him that he would kill him.  The minister crossed the line, touched the inmate on the arm and he (buckled) fell down to the ground and began to weep under the power of God.

I have seen other examples, but they were not choreographed with the touching of the head and a "catcher" in position expecting the person to fall.

Yeah - where does being slain in the spirit come from?

Probably the same place giving birth in the spirit.
