First Thoughts: Decision Day Decision Day on Obama’s health-care law… Both Obama and Romney are in DC today… New NBC-Marist polls: Michigan: Obama 47%, Romney 43%; North Carolina: Obama 46%, Romney 44%; New Hampshire: Obama 45%, Romney 45%... Who is doing a better job of defining Bain -- Romney or his opponents?... And speaking of, a new Priorities USA ad hits Romney on the topic. Decision Day: “This is a big f-ing deal.” That’s what Vice President Biden said about the health-care legislation that President Obama was about to sign into law in March of 2010. But the same could be said -- more than two years later -- about today’s upcoming U.S. Supreme Court decision on that very same law. At stake is Obama’s top domestic policy achievement, something that Democrats have been pursuing since the Truman days and something that the party paid a high price for in the 2010 midterms. Republicans also have something at stake here: Despite all their resistance, the Tea Party rallies, and the court challenges, is it possible that they come up empty-handed? And, of course, today’s decision will have repercussions in the 2012 presidential contest. The decision comes after 10:00 am ET, so fasten your seatbelts…

 

*** Obama’s and Romney’s whereabouts: As for the two principal actors in the presidential race, both will be in DC. We can report that if the U.S. Supreme Court finds the health-care law constitutional, Obama will comment from the White House fairly soon after the decision. But if it’s unconstitutional -- or if the ruling is a mixed bag -- reaction from Obama could come later in the day. Meanwhile, we’re also expecting that Romney will make his comment in the nation’s capital, too.

 

*** A reminder: The ruling might not come at 10:00 am sharp: NBC’s Pete Williams issues this guidance on the Supreme Court’s health-care ruling: The decision might not be right at 10:00 am ET. The court, Williams says, also has two other decisions to issue today -- a challenge to a recently passed federal law that makes it a crime to lie about receiving a military honor and a case involving who can sue over certain real estate transactions. The justices announce their decisions in reverse order of seniority, starting with the most junior and moving up to the most senior. So Williams says it's possible we could get the health care decision right at 10:00 am ET, but it's also possible that we'll have to wait for the court to hand down the other two first.

 

*** A tight race per three new battleground state polls: In advance of the Supreme Court decision -- and also in advance today’s contempt of Congress vote on Attorney General Eric Holder -- we have some new polling data to chew on. According to a new round of NBC-Marist polls, Obama and Romney are running almost neck-and-neck in three swing states whose place in the battleground is in some dispute between the two campaigns. Our polls find Obama holding a slight advantage in Michigan and North Carolina and with the two candidates tied in New Hampshire. In Michigan, Obama is ahead by four percentage points among registered voters, including those undecided yet leaning toward a candidate, 47%-43%. (The closeness here could be reflective of the fact the Obama campaign hasn’t spent any money in this state while outside GOP groups have.) In North Carolina, the president gets 46% to Romney’s 44%, which is within the survey’s margin of error. And in New Hampshire, the two men are tied at 45% each.

 

*** But is Obama stronger in those states than the head-to-heads suggest? When you look at the other data in the polls, you see that Obama might be in a stronger position than those head-to-head numbers suggest in two of the states. In Michigan, Obama’s approval is 48%-42% and his fav/unfav is 51%-41%, while Romney’s fav/unfav in his native state is just 37%-43%. In New Hampshire, the president’s approval is 47%-45% and his fav/unfav is 50%-44%, versus Romney’s 45%-45% fav/unfav. In North Carolina, it’s a jump ball no matter how you look at it. Obama’s approval is 47%-47% and his fav/unfav is 48%-45%, while Romney’s fav/unfav is 45%-45%. And we’ll say this about North Carolina, which Obama won by just 14,000 votes in 2008: All the polling we’ve seen in the Tar Heel State suggests he has a high floor. We’re not sure if he can get to 50% there, but he’s going to be in high 40s.

 

*** November Bain: Yesterday, the Romney campaign met with Washington Post editors demanding a retraction from its story last week noting that Bain Capital, under Romney’s leadership, invested in companies that outsourced jobs to China and India. The Washington Post isn’t retracting the story. (The Romney folks have released the PowerPoint they had put together for the Post to the public.) But here’s a question to ponder in all of this: Who has done a better job of defining Bain so far -- Romney or his opponents? Indeed, earlier this year, it was Newt Gingrich who was defining Bain. And now it’s the Obama campaign and the news media. Romney does have a good story to tell here (Staples, Sports Authority), but the campaign has yet to air a single paid TV ad in this general election touting that story. If Romney ends up losing this presidential election, we might all look back and see Romney’s inability to define his work at Bain -- which he’s touting as his chief credential in this presidential contest -- as his undoing. Oh, and there’s a reason why Romney is challenging the Post: being portrayed as an outsourcer-in-chief is potentially MUCH MORE damaging than saying “the public sector is doing fine,” especially in those Midwest swing states.

*** Another hit on Bain: And speaking of defining Bain, the pro-Obama Super PAC Priorities USA Action is up with another TV ad on the topic. “Romney bought companies, drowned them in debt,” the narrator states in the ad. “Many went bankrupt; thousands of workers lost jobs, benefits and pensions. But for every company he drove into the ground, Romney averaged a $92 million dollar profit. Now he says his business experience would make him a good President?” The ad -- which will air in Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia -- concludes: “If Romney wins, the middle class loses.”

No kidding! I would like for this to be a disuccsion about how President Obama fought to make the right decision for Latino Americans & future Latino Americans, instead of a political move to win Florida other states. Politicians have always sounded like positive motivational speakers reading from a script while their votes are being brought by Chairman of banks, Chairman of Engery Companies, Pharmaceutical Companies & Corporate America, instead of honest folks that's gonna tell Americans an honest answer, much money will be cut from the budget? "Elected by the people for the people," have always been a very nice slogan but for from the true. The IRS run America. I think politicians have to professional liars, how else could they raise over a billion dollars to spend to become President of the United States only to make a mere half a million without book sales & speaking engagements. I hate when politicians treat Americans like children that can't handle the true. O.k., there's no Santa Clause, u control the money & make all the disicsions regarding how happy I can be. But back to the point, President Obama immigration policy has been more of a media frenzy about the polls & less about the Latino community & what this mean to Latinos on a personal level. Let's talk about Latino news on CNN, the report is about 50 to 80 bodies found in a ditch decapitated! There is very lil' about the Latino budegt, education system, colleges or universities research. There is very lil' news about the banks system, government & how they operate in govern states or anything else for that matter. I"ll tell u what, if the cartels smell a rat they don't try to kill the rat they burn & bring down the whole house & build another. I hate a rat, but doubt if America would stand for 50 to 80 bodies found in a ditch on the outskirts of any State, especially Texas or Cali, not without the National Gaurd rolling hard. I'm not trying to get into the cartel business, but if that happened in America it would be on every local news, CNN, MSNBC, Fox news, BBC, the internet & everything else. The world would not stand for it. So why is it as common as u going to the store to pick up some milk in Mexico? I don't blame any Latino that wanna come to America. I never heard of a Latino terrorist.

Its good Obamacare or Health Care was upheld.  Its not civilized for America to let people die for lack of medicine or treatment. 

Having established God's word, here is a point to consider.  Drug and human trafficking,  is a form of TERRORISM, to its victims and U.S. citizens.  Whether Latinos are doing it or Albanians, etc.   

Perhaps a Temporary State of Martial Law needs to be declared by the Mexican Government and DEMANDED by its citizens to bring civility back to its own streets.  Mexico's government and ARMY/AIR FORCE/NAVY etc., should possess enough planes, tanks, choppers and guns to bring the cartels under control  -  or they are not in control of their own country.  This is common sense.   Lawlessness rules there, the number of murder victims is proof the drug traders are operating like a shadow government.  Order will not be restored without bloodshed, unfortunately. 

Mexico has the ability to establish a MASSIVE MANUFACTURING BASE FOR OTHER NATIONS.  THEY COULD OFFER INCENTIVES TO OTHER COUNTRIES TO SET UP MANUF. PLANTS  in Mexico by the dozens. COMPLETE WITH ALL THE CHEAP LABOR THEY COULD WANT.   Its a CAPITALIST'S dream come true!!!!!

This is the problem with Mexico, they are amiss at taking care of their own people.  Encouraging their citizens to cross the border and financially benefiting from immigrants TRAFFICKING drugs as well as sending .UNTAXED U.S. DOLLARS back home is met with a "pat on the back" nationally.  This is them treating us, as their neighbor, immorally before God which He also denounces:

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is one of the nation’s largest health care providers. In fiscal year 2011, VA spent about $51.4 billion to provide health care to about 6.2 million patients. To provide this care, VA operates more than 150 hospitals, 130 nursing homes, 800 outpatient clinics, and 300 readjustment counseling centers through 21 regional health care networks known as Veterans Integrated Service Networks. VA is required by law to provide health care services to certain veterans and may provide care to other veterans on a discretionary basis. In general, veterans must enroll in the VA health care system to receive VA’s medical benefits package, which includes coverage for a full range of hospital and outpatient services, prescription drug coverage, and noninstitutional long-term care services provided in veterans’ own homes and in other locations in the community. VA also provides some services that are not part of its medical benefits package, such as nursing home care.

The amount of funding VA receives to provide its health care services is determined by Congress in the annual appropriations process. Congress provided new appropriations of about $48.2 billion for fiscal year 2011 and advance appropriations of $50.6 billion for fiscal year 2012 for VA health care. In preparation for the appropriations process, VA must annually develop a budget estimate of the resources that it believes are needed to provide its health care services. This estimate is subsequently used to help inform the President’s formal budget request for appropriations for VA health care.

VA’s annual budget estimate for a fiscal year includes estimates of the resources available to provide VA health care services. This includes an annual estimate of the amount of resources expected to be available from collections and reimbursements that VA anticipates it will receive in the fiscal year. It also includes an estimated amount of resources VA has not spent—known as an unobligated balance—that VA is authorized to carry over into the following fiscal year from the previous one. VA’s collections include third party payments from veterans’ private health care insurance for the treatment of nonservice-connected conditions and veterans’ copayments for outpatient medications. VA’s reimbursements include amounts VA receives for services provided under service agreements with the Department of Defense (DOD). As indicated in the President’s budget request for VA for fiscal year 2012, VA estimated it would receive $3.4 billion in collections and reimbursements and would carry over an unobligated balance of $1.1 billion from fiscal year 2011. The President’s fiscal year 2012 budget request assumed that VA’s total spending for health care services would be $54.9 billion to serve an estimated 6.2 million patients.

VA’s estimates of collections, reimbursements, and unobligated balances are part of VA’s overall formulation of its annual budget estimate. This process is inherently complex, as VA must rely on assumptions and imperfect information. The process begins approximately 18 months in advance of the fiscal year for which the President is requesting funding. As such, VA’s budget formulation, including its estimates of collections, reimbursements, and unobligated balances, occurs with significant uncertainty about the future. Our past work has highlighted VA’s challenges regarding budget formulation in making realistic assumptions about the budgetary impact of policy changes, making accurate calculations, and obtaining sufficient data for useful budget projections.
Given the importance of VA’s collections, reimbursements, and unobligated balances in the formulation of its budget estimate and given VA’s budget formulation challenges, you asked us to examine VA’s experience estimating these funds in the context of the President’s budget request. I also would like to add, President Obama is facing a tremendous amount of scrutiny by Republicans, but President Clinton also faced a great deal of scrutiny during re-election, more than President Obama, but in the end this Nation decided that President Clinton was the best man for the job to run this Nation. President Obama know history very well & will grow from that part of history. I think President Obama Administration is not receiving enough credit for killing high ranking terrorist than the past Administration. I think the reason for that is because President Obama Administration know it's a blow for all of America & not just a political party. I also think President Obama Administration is not receiving enough credit for focusing on the United States of America problems instead of government contract corporations special interest overseas. To put it bluntly, I don't think President Obama agenda & his efforts to execute his agenda is receiving enough credit from America, mainly the media.

I voted for Obama in 2008 because I wanted to see a black commander-in-chief.  Killing Bin Laden and Health Care are his crowning achievement and I give him much credit. I've voted Democrat since 1976.  .

In June, 2012, Obama sent the IRS, Eric Holder, the liberal ACLU lawyers, {who sued and took prayer and bibles out of schools),  to advise, (instruct, intimidate, warn, school, educate), black pastors/church denominations on what they can say about the Election.  This is not worthy of praise or honor.  

Hi-Jacking the SCLC, the NAACP to validate a "Gay Civil Rights" movement all the while causing a wedge between these organizations and their church origins didn't matter to' him.  This is not worthy

Allowing bibles to be removed from AF Bases without stepping up and trying to stop it is not worthy of honor.  Promoting homosexuality and making it law as a Christian(?) president is not worthy of praise,  If he was an atheist/agnostic president, that I could see. 

The democratic party is going way too RADICAL in its agenda.  Anti-christian policies are facing black democratic christian voters in 2012.  Another Obama term is going to mean more anti-church attacks - a mature Christian can discern this with his/her natural eye if one just looks.  I'm not saying blacks should vote for Romney.  That's got to be prayed about individually.  But you best believe, Obama is just getting started now. Next term he will be unrestrained under mining our religious freedom of what can or cannot be preached.

This election can't be about voting for a democrat or the black brother, not anymore.

I voted on agenda. I agreed with maybe 30% to 35% of John McCain agenda. I  agreed with maybe 85% to 90% of President Obama agenda. I respected both 110% as a person.

I have voted demo since mid 1970's.  He was our nominee and first black one to.

As if that the fact that he was our chance to see a black democratic pres. didn't matter to you back then?  You voted solely on democratic party principles? . . If you say so!

I could not tel;l from your posts I read if you are a Christian or secularist.  But since you are on a preaching site, I wonder are you o.k. with how liberals curse and revile God and then say they are more moral than Christians?

Fundamentally, I don't think either party is against God. I don't think God said it, I think it's  more of what  u said & not God. 

In this country people like to use passages from the Bible to support their argument because they know Bible passages are socially acceptable. All political parties govern each State by laws & a body of fundamental principles.

U like passages from the Bible, right?  Here let me help u out in remembering, When Jesus was asked, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” he replied, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

O.K., say if the Democrats would have shot down same sex marriage, would that stop two women or two men from being in a relationship & living together? It's not like the police could go to a gay couple home & arrest them for not being legally married. In the past most Democrats & Republicans who tried to force that lifestyle in the closet were gay or bisexual & living in the closet themselves. If I see two gay couples together I know my vote for one party or the other will never separate them & neither will my personal beliefs & no  I'm not gay or bisexual & never have been.

I heard something like that before, I think it was the Klan. Matter of fact, Exalted Grand Wizards were all deacons, Sunday school teachers, ministers & preachers.
