Prove the devil was an angel

Isaiah 14 is a taunt concerning the King of Babylon. Verse 4 reveals this to us,"you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon." Once this is established, then the rest of Isaiah 14 will fall into place. Isaiah is not talking about a demonic being. The world Lucifer, which is latin for "morning star" is contexually referring to the man who is King of Babylon.

Ezekiel 28 is the same way, for its about the ruler of Tyre. Verse 2 reveals this to us,"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God." Once you establish this, then the rest of Ezekiel 28 falls into place. Ezekiel's mentioning of Cherub, and the garden of eden, all are symbols of the ruler himself, and the beauty of his kingdom. This should not be taken as being a demonic being. That belief is mere tradition rather than scripture.

Another thing we have to see is that the word "satan" simply means adversary. Anyone can be called satan, even God himself was called Satan. God is a satan to sinners. Angels were satans to sodom and gomorrah. So you see, it does not mean demonic being... thats tradition.

The reason I aske dthis question is because I was doing some studing for a messsage and saw in Revelations that he was a DRAGON not an angel and just wondered. Then I went to genesis and saw he was a serpent walking on legs and again wondered why he was called an angel. If I read the Word right he never was an angel but a beast or a dragon. Help me if I am incorrect.

I encourage you to study the historical/cultural backgrounds of revelation. You will find out that the mentions of dragons, beasts, images, etc, are all symbols of the Roman empire, its ruler, and its system. Its important to know why John wrote, and to whom it was written to. We know the whom in the first 3 chapters(7 Church of Asia). Now, we must know why John wrote this letter to those 7 Churches. By doing this, understanding the high symbols of revelation will become clear. I hope that helps.
