Many of you may have heard that some members of The Riverside Church in Harlem are upset that their new pastor, the Rev. Brad Braxton, is being paid more than $600,000 in annual compensation.

Without a doubt this brother is highly credentialed, but is $600,000 too much?

UPDATE:

FELLOW KINETICS FAITH & JUSTICE MEMEBER AND WELL RESPECTED THEOLOGIAN, DR. OBERY HENDRICKS, HAS INFORMED ME THAT MOST OF THE NEWS ABOUT DR. BRAXTON IS FALSE AND THE REALITY IS THAT A SMALL GROUP WANTS TO BREAK BRAD BRAXTON BECAUSE THEY WANT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CHURCH AS HE ENDEAVORS TO BE A REAL PASTOR.

SO THIS QUESTION IS NOT INTENDED TO ATTACK DR. BRAXTON, BUT ABOUT CLERGY COMPENSATION IN GENERAL. HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH?

$600,000 is too much.
What they need to do is make sure that he has a home, a car, a salary and if he has to preach elsewhere that his needs are provided for and he is compensated by the church he is speaking in.
None of that equals to $600,000 a year.
That equals to $12,500 a week?
That is WAY too much money.
