The Law & The Prophets taught against "once saved always saved"

Scriptural references are as follows:

Duet 30:15-20,"See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”

Ezekiel 18:24,"But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die."

These scriptures, among many from the Law & The Prophets are the foundations of Jesus' teachings concerning this topic.

Any questions?

I guess it your personal mission to attempt to get someone to think that salvation can be lost huh? Well, help me understand how David was able to remain in place after his unrighteous act of sleeping with another man's wife, getting her pregnate, attempting to lie the baby off on him, then ultimatley haveing the man killed? I know where you stand on this you know where I stand I wont go back and forth on another blog about a repeat topic, but I would like to knw who you see this situation in light of the scriptures you posted.
Rev,

Psalm 51 is where David displayed his repentance. Jesus said in Luke 13:3-5,"repent or perish". David was a man after God's own heart, why? Because He was a man of repentance! I believe that answers your question :)
Kind of, so are you saying that the entire time up until David and Nathan had there conversation David would have been lost?
Yup! He just may have because he was living with the idea that "I got away with it!" Too often is the notion of GOD's grace and mercy stressed to a point that GOD's righteousness and justice IGNORED!
Rev,

David did not escape the consequences of his sin. God said that evil would rise up in his own household, and we saw just that(if you've read), throughout Samuel. Even in all of that, David confessed his sin to God, and repented of it. David was not lost, for a man after God's own heart cannot be lost!... THATS IF He continues in OBEDIENCE!
I never said he did escape the consequences of his sin, and quite honestly you've just stated what I have been saying the whole time when dealing with this subject. The consequence of sin and the penalty of sin are entirely different. The penalty of sin is death, but for the believer we have been saved from that through our faith in Christ. But what comes from an act of sin is discipline. As you stated yourself David was not lost because the bible says he was a man after God's own heart but what the man did was against His word, but because of His mercy David was still fellowship with God. But as you stated and yes I've read (again with the insinuations) the punishment was a way ward son who tried to take the kingdom from him.

Now you and Bro Green need to huddle up and get the story straight. Because now both of ya'll confusion me and saying two different things. One is saying he was lost the other is saying he wasnt. I in this case lean more towards your explanation Pierce, there is consequences for sin but if you have been saved (possesion, not profession) you dont like what you've done and you will repent when faced with your actions.
I totally agree! Once saved is not ALWAYS saved. You can forfeit the blessing of salvation. Its not a mandate which canno be overturned, but a gift that can be lost.

The only thing with this Bro. Green is that it is no longer a gift.
Rev,

Gifts are given to people all the time. If the gift is taking away from them, or they gave it up, then that does not mean the gift is no longer a gift. It will always be a gift, but if you give it up, you will just be absent of the gift you once had.
Given up a gift is one thing but saying that the giver of the gift would take it away is another. And hence forth if the gift giver came back to take away what he freely gave then what was given was not a gift in the first place.
Rev,

Each man has free choice. So, when the gift is given to you, then you are free to do what you will with that gift. You have free choice to give up the gift of eternal life. Duet 30 lays out the free choice for mankind. You will keep the gift, or you give it up.
Hi Pastor, so what is your conclusion? Once saved we are not always saved? Yeah, though its' complex I agree that someone who is saved can go back into darkness. Well, actually isn't that what the Hebrew Scripture says, "if you know God and turn away, it's impossible to come back." I think it's possible to become an apostate like Judas but many times one gets that mixed up with the Scripture, 'God is married to the backslider."

Anyway, it's interesting.
