As a believer, I can well understand his position on homosexuality. But, it appears that as a city official, who is representing everyone in this legal capacity, should not make such a statement because he is speaking on behalf of all people in this city as their representative. As a nation of diversities, government officials/leaders really have to tread lightly on their personal and religious beliefs. I would not want a Buddhist government official speaking as my representative on the issues of religious beliefs, neither would I want any government official of a different faith to run their office based on their religious belief. Can you imagine what turmoil this would create if everyone government official ran their office based on their religion, especially if they are of different faiths.

This can be a hard pill to swallow.
