“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.” Gal 3:19

When Paul says, "It was added", did he mean that some ’additional law’ was put in place to go along with some others that already existed ? Of course he did! And what 'already existed ', were Gods laws. The reason I say that is because of the term Paul used; 'transgressions'

If you look up the biblical meaning of the word 'transgression', you will find it means the breaking of laws. The bible tells us this:

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” 1 John 3:4

Now let’s look up the word, ‘transgress’ in the dictionary:

Definition: 1. transitive verb break law: to break a law, rule, or moral code
transgress the law
2. intransitive verb do wrong: to commit a crime or do wrong by disobeying a law, command, or moral code
He transgressed against the organization's code of conduct.

So, a person who ‘transgresseth’ the law is someone who is breaking the law, in this case God‘s laws!

Knowing that transgression is breaking God’s laws, we can now read the verse for what it is; we can see that 'another' law was added to other already established laws. Let’s read:

“Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions (the breaking of the laws), till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.” Gal 3:19

So what Paul was saying in Gal. is that A LAW was ADDED (to put something into or join something onto something else) because of TRANSGRESSIONS (breaking a rule, or moral code).

Now this is very clear English here. God inspired Paul to write these words. And Webster provided the definitions.

There are many words the Holy Spirit could have told Paul to use like:

Began, commence, start, embark. But Paul was told to use the word ADDED!!

Let’s read a bit more of what Paul said in Gal.:

“…till the seed should come to whom the promise was made.” Gal. 3:19.

Above, Paul also tells us that the Law that was ADDED, was ONLY to be around until the seed should come.

Here are a few questions to consider:

Which law was added because of the breaking of the Laws?

Why did the Law have to be added?

How long was the law that was added to be observed?

Who or what is, “…the seed to come.”?

What is the minimum number of laws Paul is talking about? Because if Paul talks about MORE that (1) law, and he does, then WHICH law is it that was nailed to Christ’s’ cross?

Let’s remember the warning Peter gave us about Paul’s writings when answering these questions:

[15] “… even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

[16] As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.” 2 Peter 3

REMEMBER: If you don't fully understand Paul's writings it could lead to your own destruction.

Again....no takers for this question either? I just know there are those that read it? It too is easy?

What Was the Law That was ADDED?

Now come on all of you pastors out there! What law was ADDED because of the BREAKING of God's Laws?
Eccl,

I checked the Greek for the word "added". The Greek for added is pros-tith'-ay-mee, which means: 1) to put to 2) to add 2a) i.e. to join to, gather with any company, the number of one's followers or companions 2a1) he was gathered to his fathers i.e. died.

If it actually meant added, then what were the previous laws? We know that Israel was in Egypt for over 420 years. So, it could not mean that Yahweh's Torah was added to the already existing Egyptian laws. So, it cannot, in my opinion, mean addition.

I like the meaning of "to join to, gather with any company". Why? In other words, Yahweh's Torah was joined to his people when they came out of Egypt, to establish them as a people holy and priestly to him.
All of Gods Laws were in place way before He wrote them on stone and gave them to Moses.

Not only that, but this law that was added was ONLY to be around, "“…till the seed should come..."

So this law, unlike the ones God said were FOREVER, was only so be around for a limited time.

Now what set of Laws ended when Christ died?
