Let’s talk about your life, shall we? Have you ever wondered your purpose for being? To find out the very reason you exist, here on earth. To discover beyond any doubt, the destiny that God had ordained for you from the beginning. Do you seek to know if in fact you are on that right path? What questions run through your mind as you read this? What questions fill your mind as you lie at night and somehow know, that you just aren’t in the right spot God has for you. Perhaps you feel God has something more for you, and you simply haven’t discovered it yet? Are you happy with whom you are, or would you like to see a change? God indeed has chosen a path for each of us; the key in life is to discover it- amen?

The thoughts that fill our minds are either carnal or spiritual in nature. One will lead us to our destined path, while the other will lead us to our ultimate destruction. Part of the discovery of our destiny, will lie in the process of learning the differences between the two. One will seek what is best for self, wanting things such as glory, riches, or fame. This is human and we all do it, but if not controlled, it will lead us to a road that even though it may be lined with diamonds, it most always leads to a broken bridge and a very deep fall. This thought is carnal, meaning of the flesh, and nothing in the flesh can please the Lord. If you seek the path God has for you, getting what we call “self “ out of the way, is first and foremost. There may be times when we must even block out the voices of those we love. Though their intentions are well directed, if their thoughts are carnal in nature, then the path they believe you should go, very well might be the wrong one for you.

The Word of God tells us that everything good in us, comes from him. That without his direct intervention we are all destined to a path that will only destroy us. None of us, no matter our education level, or our personal strengths can do any good without his almighty grace. Each and every act of Godliness was done only by his intervention. Don’t ever think you are a “good “person, for the Word of God will tell you, to believe so is carnal and not spiritual. So how do we know what is spiritual? How do we know if it’s God or not? To understand the spiritual, we must first understand the spirit. The spirit is God, and thus we must learn to understand him. Where do we get that knowledge, the Bible of course and a lot of talking to God himself? It requires us to be willing to subject ourselves to his hand. To truly seek a real relationship with the living God, and not the kind of relationship that likes to place God on a shelf and pull him down when they need him. But one that seeks to walk with him daily.

All of us want to know why we’re here, and all of us want to have a purpose and a God called destiny. But we must all realize there are two paths. One more traveled down and the other much less so. If you seek the path God has for you, then today you must choose to go after God with everything you have. If not the carnal side will most likely take control and we have discussed where that leads. We cannot go through life wanting the things of God while attempting to walk the fence of both God’s way and of self. We must decide one or the other, or failure is likely in the future.

Do nothing without praying first. Take no path without listening. Allow God to open the doors. You just simply be there ready to go in, when he does open them. We don’t have to understand everything about God to find him. Trust the fact, if you’re truly searching for truth, God has already found you. Allow him to mold you and to use you for his glory. Remember there are no small jobs for the Lord. Know that this walk is not an overnight thing, it is a lifetime thing. Each day grow in the Lord, seek his hand and the path will begin to light up for you. Mature in your faith, learn to hear his voice and learn to obey it. Trust this one scripture on your path of salvation. Hebrews 12:2- looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. What is this saying? It simply means that what Jesus started in you, he promises to finish. Don’t let the Devil discourage you; he is nothing more than a barking dog without teeth.

The foundation, on which anything stands upon, is the key to its stability. In the United States of America we chose as a nation to be called “one nation, under God”. This statement of our intent shows the character of the individuals that fought and died for the cause of freedom. The foundation that was laid was a foundation of faith, and a trust in a God that declared that men would have free will to decide and choose their own path of life. Born with the inherit right of freedom, we based our choices of governing and living off the same characteristics found in the Christian faith. I pose this thought to all Americans. Could the reason we see the rise in things such the divorce rates, murder, suicides, homelessness, hunger and even out of control spending be a direct effect of our choices to change or lessen the balance of faith in our country?

If the foundation on which we stand, changes would that not also cause a shift in all other areas as well, creating an undeniable difference from the original? I believe The USA’s strength comes from the direct hand of God. A nation blessed for making its choice in giving reverence and honor to God. However, when we find ourselves making choices that are opposite of our original foundation, have we not compromised that which made us what we are today and risk what that change might just create us to be later?

In Psalm 82; 5-7 (NIV) we read- “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. “I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’ But you will die like mere mortals; you will fall like every other ruler” The term “god’s here refers to the individuals in leadership positions within our system of governing. They in their high offices are given the power and authority to make decisions that should reflect the direct will of God in society. But what happens when those in office choose to change what would be seen as God’s will?

The next question would be, have we as the church allowed such change, simply from a failure to get involved? Note, I am not speaking of intertwining church and state, but what I speak of is simply the church’s involvement in the declaration of one solid doctrine? I am speaking again of a Body of believers that shows unity not only in spirit but in all areas. Have we as the church in our many disagreements and in our visible divisions caused unstableness in the moral standards that follow the leaders in which govern us today? If we as the moral compass of society are divided, how can we properly show others anything concerning unity? If those moving into leadership positions do not have a solid understanding of the true and original foundation that created such a strong nation, perhaps this, is partially to blame for the problems we face today?

For the church, I point to, 1Corinthians 1:10 it reads - Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. Today is a call not only to Christian Americans, but of all Americans. Remember what made us strong enough to make our enemies tremble in battle. Remember why we came here to begin with, and remember who at one time we choose to honor in our schools and in our homes. I pray for a nation that will once again choose to honor him again. Is this your prayer as well? Christians .. America is going thru changes. This week we all sat back and watched and wondered what was going to happen to a nation, that too much of the world seemed unshakable. We have learned thru history that many of what were the most powerful nations in the world either don’t exist today, or have changed significantly. Today we want to consider the body of Christ, and its role in what America will become in the near future. Have we as “The Church” played our role as God intended, or have many, chosen to take a backseat to the spiritual needs of what is said to be a Nation under God. If so, could we say the problems we face as a nation be partially contributed to our doing, or rather lack of doing what we should have?

We as the spiritual leaders of our nation have a role to play, though it seems that many of our local bodies take the political stance of being neutral in any political affairs. We preach only to those within our four walls and claim God will take care of the rest, but this my friends is not scripture at all. Have many of our corporate church bodies signed their voices away for little fringe benefits? Declaring that they will stay out of governing affairs if those governing will stay out of their affairs? Brothers and sisters the spirit of God weeps at what Christ’s Church has become. No matter the future and what it holds, we the church have a job to do and if our voices will not work to create a balance then the scales of good and evil will fall to one side and everything we hold dear could very well change.

In order to maintain a “nation under God”, the teachers of such God must be heard. Their voice can not simply be restrained within the church walls but rather must be seen and heard standing in front of the multitude just as Jesus Christ did. I understand the role of church and state, do not get me wrong. But if either one goes neglected or absent then what we were founded upon could very well change, or has it already? Body of Christ, it is time to step out. Have we as a body been doing all that we can? Things such as the welfare system and social security could very well be a thing of the past in the near future. Is the “church” ready to assume the role of taking care of these individuals that will be affected? Is it not biblical to do so?

Reading in Deut. 15:7 - If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks. My question is not are we helping, but are we helping enough? Are we truly doing all we can? Or have many of us focused more on padded pews and entertainment systems rather than giving all we can to the needy? Do any of us in Christ body have an issue with giving? Are our leaders teaching that it is better to give than receive? Are they teaching that to see a need and to ignore it, is worse than the issue that first caused it? I leave you with this quote; "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke). Christianity- what does it mean to you? What are your thoughts of whether Christianity should be molded to relate to this modern world, or should the modern world learn to relate to original Christianity? Does the Christian faith need to adjust its thinking on some of our modern issues? Or, are these issues the same as years past and the only difference is the people arguing the same issues? If God does not change as per Mal.3:6. It reads- “For I am the LORD, I change not”. Can we go as far to say that if God doesn’t change; then neither would his words? Perhaps the true issue is mankind and their constant attempt to mask the true desires of God? Working to bend God’s word just enough to say their sin is ok.

Christianity is simple; everyone has heard me say this. Christianity is simply us molding our thoughts, desires and lifestyles after Jesus Christ. If a person does not do the three actions listed, then a Christian I would say, they are not. Rather they would be considered something totally different then what Jesus was and what he would do- correct? Christianity is simply being Christ like. This said, to be a true Christian, we must follow the original wants and desires of Christ, since Christ was characteristically the same as the Father. In John 14; 7 it reads -“If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well”. Why is it then we have folks claiming to be Christians yet are seen doing so many of what could be said as anti Christian acts?

Are you a Christian or are you not? Perhaps this is the real question at hand. Not whether you attend church or bible study, but more so; do your actions resemble Christ? Why are you a Christian, do you know? In 1peter 3; 15 it reads - But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. If someone stopped you on the street and asked you straight out why you were a Christian, could you give a straight answer and account for your actions as true to Christ? If not, then perhaps there is an error in your walk with the Lord?

If we did a poll today I believe a majority would claim Christianity as their faith. But out of this number, how many would you say are true? This is one of the biggest issues in the modern church. The ability for people to claim the title and yet walk as any unchristian would still do. This brings real confusion on those younger in the faith or those still seeking and most definitely in the eyes of those skeptical of the faith already. Probably the biggest infiltration evil has ever done was to simply mix the church with those that are sincere and real with those that care nothing for truth, but only pleasure.
As Christians in the last days we must decide whether we are going to lift up the truth of Christianity or lessen it. Leaders, though it may be impossible to fix all issues, those inside the church walls should be fixable. Speak only truth as Christ would declare, or face judgment in the end. We must improve and increase our discipleship teaching, and work to empower those that will stand the test of time and storms of tribulations. We have many Churches, but our voices have become faint. Arise and stand for Jesus once again.
Righteous integrity could be defined as the uncompromising, firm belief in holy things and the unwavering dedication to the desires of our God of creation. We should be like the mighty oak tree that is upright and strong, not carelessly blowing with the wind. As we look into the life of Jesus Christ we will see one thing above all others. We will see this righteous integrity in his every day walk on this earth. Through all his massive temptations he would stand upon the words of the Father, and not yield one ounce to the wiles of the enemy. We the church, are asked practically everyday to lessen this righteous integrity and replace it with something that though it may be more appealing to people, it forces the face of God to turn from us.

As Christians we must develop an attitude as to not be necessarily judgmental but not tolerant of just anything either. This world would have Christianity yield its doctrine to fit almost anything. They ask the body to develop a sense of tolerance as to please the people and be acceptable of all. But the question we should ask ourselves is this, is it pleasing to God? If what we do forces God to turn from us, then I say we are no longing helping anyone, we in reality, are condemning them by not speaking truth. Christianity is about Hope, faith and above all else love, but it is also about truth and holiness. Real Christians will teach real truth. Though truth is as the Bible declares as sharp as a double edge sword, and can bring us conviction and at times even emotional pain, may we ask ourselves this question. Do we really search for truth or simply tolerance and acceptance of the sin we want in our lives? If the answer God gives is no, are we willing to accept it and move on?

I have heard folks speak of phrases such as “holier than thou” or” their just a fanatic”. But if we are walking as Jesus did , and of course this, in itself is part of the main doctrine of Christianity in a nutshell, than we will somewhat have this attitude correct? The problem comes again, concerning the education and discipleship of young Christians and their wisdom and understanding of the real desires of Christ. No one wants to be lied to- amen. But if what we are teaching is not absolute truth than are we not in fact being lied to? I guess what it really boils down to is, do you firmly believe that there is an absolute truth, and if you do, do you believe is it found in God? I do, this is why I chose Christianity. Though I admit there are faults in the way the modern Church is ran, the truth is still found in Jesus Christ and his real body of believers. I know because God has allowed me to see things many men can only phantom to ever behold. I know, because I have felt the real hand of God.

Are we teaching those seeking truth, the real truth taught by Jesus Christ himself? Are we helping to mold new devoted and sincere Christian men and women that will not only show love to a torn world but will also work to preserve the righteous integrity of Christianity itself. To preserve the standard God intended and to stand by it despite the mighty winds that come against it. Are we truly developing, encouraging and empowering those that will soon go forward?

The term religion has had probably the largest effect on societies known to man. With our massive compilation of faiths and doctrines more deaths and destruction have come in what many have claimed ” In the name of God”. I reject many of these claims and though yes it is documented in the word, that God did in fact send his people into war at times, and did order what today would seem to be extremely ruthless actions. The horrid actions of what many in today’s society are claiming to be in God’s name is anything but God’s will, but simply folks using the name of God in vain and placing a seriously bad mark on the real church and of Christianity itself.

Ignorance of truth is the key to chaos and divisions. It is the black magic marker that smudges the stains on trueness and sincerity. It is what tears down families, churches and even societies in a whole. The evil that has been done supposedly in the name of God, tears at the heart of God himself. It is angry people seeking the stamped approval of God to fulfill actions that oppose the very fiber of who and what Jesus Christ is. They are men and woman claiming the title of Christian; yet teach of only hate and division. This my friend’s is not the God I serve. Christianity is about grace, forgiveness, and service to and for the Father, and to the ministering of the people. Notice, I did not say to only Christians, but of the people entirely. Jesus Christ came to save the sinner, not the righteous. If you serve only the saints, then your cup is only half full, and your ministry is at half what it’s called to be.

Brothers and sisters , this ignorance of truth, that plagues our towns, our communities and country has to soon find us standing together with our hands out and declaring that it will be no more. Our united voices must be louder and stronger than those that would mock the spirit led truth of salvation. Peace, harmony and unity, I believe is at the heart of practically every faith in our world. The desire to call each man or woman surrounding you your spiritual brother or sister should be in your heart. If it is not, then there is a problem. That though it may not be possible for every soul to be united in love, the spirit of such love will never stop desiring it nevertheless.

To find the truth of Christianity you must above all things know who Christ is. You must know how and why he walked this earth. You must know his character and his personality as to mold yours to his likeness. If you do not know what his actions would be, then it is impossible to mold your actions to what would be considered “Christ-like”, thus would not be Christian either would it? This truth of Christ, and who he is, would be the key to unraveling the chaos that Satan has so cleverly crafted. The underlining issue that I believe has led to such spiritual misjudgments is the lack of our modern churches, to not only teach of Jesus, but more in their ability to lead them to him. They stay way from such spiritualness and prosecutable doctrine and go with one that perhaps simply yields more members, and less confrontation, yet it also lacks the power and the spiritual guidance we get from the Holy Spirit. A little knowledge without real guidance is never a good thing.
Have you ever heard the song “A Change is gonna come “? Stop for a minute and watch the world around you; you have to wonder sometimes, how it is that we as a people have made this far? There are so many people running in so many directions, and seemly at times almost unaware of the people to their right or left. So many ideas and traditions all mixed together, yet we still find a way to establish some kind of structure in society. I believe it is because we as a people, though we may not agree upon all things, we still find a way to do what is right. Deep inside each of us is the desire to see peace and harmony- amen?

How many of us have spent our lives running like the river in this song? Spending our lives in constant motion, going from place to place, and seemly never really finding our true spot in life. Always looking and wondering if the grass was greener on the other side, and most of the time finding out it wasn’t so green after all? Searching for acceptance and love in a world that at times, can be so very cold and selfish. Jesus Christ said in his word in Luke 6; 31 – “Do to others as you would have them do to you”. Truly such a small phrase, yet, my friends it is the answer to peace. It is the answer to all the divisions in our world and to the separations found within it. That though we are all different, we as a people can find in ourselves the willingness to simply treat our neighbors as we would expect to be treated ourselves.

I believe we are all children of one God, and each and every man and women in society is my brother and my sister. Do you feel this way? We may not agree on all things, I believe that is what helps keep a balance in life, but we can surely show love and respect towards each other-amen? That when it comes to doing the things that are simply “right” we will find a way to make the proper choices, and act when the time comes. Most of us seek success in our lives, but let us ask ourselves, have we helped others succeed? We seek love and happiness, yet as we walk the streets, do we offer even a simple smile to a Stranger, or even more, a hand up? To implement the scripture above we have to become aware of our surroundings. We have to break out of our little worlds and begin to see that we are such a small fragment in the large scale of things. That each of us has something to offer; sometimes it just has to be found.

Though it may be spoken differently, the idea behind the scripture above is held in practically every faith in the world. It is the simple idea that what we give out, we shall get in return. Meaning, if we give love, than love will return to us, and if we give only hate, then it to, will be given back to us. If we want peace, then we must be willing to first offer such peace. Someone has to lay down arms first and reach out to the other in love. I believe change is gonna come, like so before myself, I pray for such things as discrimination, poverty, and hunger to be a things of the past. I offer my hand to all those I may help today, will you do the same?
But how many of us in society really believe that there is only one truth? Would you say that you believe there is only one, real and tangible solid truth behind all things, or are you like many and state the claim that truth is only relative? Truth, I would say is the one solid fact of the matter. It is without multiple interpretations or perceptions. It is what it is, no matter how many people see it differently. Mankind’s theories are indeed unstable at best and come from limited exposure of reality. The statement that Ultimate truth does not exist is to me, is against all reasonable thought.

I say limited exposure to reality because I believe in order to fully understand the solid truth we must first have knowledge of the emotional, physical and spiritual aspect of such things. This of course only comes if a person has a relationship with God. Without this joining of man and of the Holy Spirit, solid truth can only be based upon the emotional and physical parts and these as we know have been proven time and time again as unstable and constantly changing. It is God that separates the fact from fiction, and thru his divine revelations, we as his children can understand the mysteries that even our brightest scientist can’t fathom to conclude. It is not years of schooling or P.H.D’s that brings us to the knowledge of truth but rather one simple thing, and that is through the school of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Let’s imagine a group of people sitting at a table, let’s say these people are very diverse and have very different emotional and physical characteristics, such as two of them are color blind. Let’s say we place the color brown on the table and ask each person to describe the color they see. Now of course this group of people is going to come to many different conclusions. Some will say they see one thing while others say they see another. The truth of the matter would be the color was what it was no matter their opinions. Though their perceptions were different, the truth of the matter would be that the color was only one thing. We can not base things only on our ability to see from an emotional or simply physical standpoint.

We as the Disciples of Christ have chosen to follow in the footsteps of the Son of God. As such we are the inheritors of Heaven, a royal priesthood in fact. God the father has given his word to one day walk with his children again, and thru his son Jesus, the gates of the kingdom shall be opened by his grace. God in his word says that if we seek the truth, we will in no doubt, find it. Friends, my God is not wishy washy He is strong, stable and consistent. His word point’s only one direction and it does not falter. To know the truth, you must first know him. To be free from the bounds of the flesh and to be open to the voice of the spirit is where real and solid truth comes from. Do you seek to know the hidden mysteries of God and the universe? I know a good place to start; it’s on your knees friends. Yes, seek your pastors for help but also seek the Lord yourselves. Cry out to God and take hold of his promises, they are for you to you know. Out In Bookstores Today ...
Have you ever just sat back and thought of what it might be like if all the multiple denominations of the christian faith were to join together as one? Not simply under the basic title of christian, but a unity that is grounded under one solid doctrine and without the separtions and divisions that we can see today within the modern church found in the United States. Ask yourself this question, how many churches can be found within Terre Haute, Indiana ? Now, how many of those churches give themselves the title of Christian? lastly ,ask yourself how many different versions of doctrine do each of these denominations teach? Has the Christian faith in Terre Haute and all over the country became more like a group of multiple faiths rather than one? The Bible clearly states that here is One Lord, one faith, one baptism.( Ephesians 4:5) Have we gone wrong, and if so how can we fix it?

Would'nt it seem impossible for any one body of believers to claim one title and yet all teach a different theory of doctrine? Does'nt that very fact show a division, and if we did finally conclude that we did indeed have a division within the body of Christ would'nt it be imperative for us to work towards a cure? Could we find a way to lower our walls of division and find that common interest that will unite the faith? What measures would we have to undertake to do so, and would all the bodies be willing to do what was nessesary for the unification?

Imagine for a moment the impact the Christian church could have again in our communities. One united body of believers firmly gripped to one doctrine and without the separations. Could the church regain its trust in the communty and to those that are not in the faith, only time would tell. I dont believe I am alone in this thought for all over our country other men and women of God are stepping out and declaring the same thing. They all are saying the same thing and that is we need a reformation of the body of Christ. That we as the members of the body need to find the way back to unification. How many of us will step out and join this mission of unity? Can the churches of Terre Haute Indiana be the town that puts this idea into real action?

Stop for an extra moment today and think about this idea. See if God tugs on the drawstrings of your heart to step out. Believe that together with God we can do anything, can we not ? We can not change the past but we can learn from it. Lets make tomorrow the begining of a mission of unity.

I would ask each person to consider posting a response on the Examiner page itself.
