Unity of the Christian faith; how important would you say it is? Would you say it ranks up top with the most important? Last week I wrote on truth, and the problem with our divided body and the confusion, a multiply doctrine “one” faith religion can be to a people that want truth and eagerly seek it, yet lack understanding. Christ’s body is not only divided by its separate doctrines, but with the establishment of such multiply denominations, what started as one has been divided into many, and places the body of Christ in a very bad light. To bring unity to Christianity, we must bring together the pieces of the scattered puzzle we call the Church. Sadly, many have no real interest in doing this. Perhaps it is because many denominations have become more of corporate businesses, rather than a houses of God, and though many in such bodies do love the Lord, many more are using faith to simply make a profit.

What does the Bible say about unity? Let’s take a look at a few scriptures. In 1 Corinthians 1:10 we read , I appeal to you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. (NIV) In john 17 v. 20-23 Jesus prays “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. See the phrase “be one”?    Note that though each of us may have different callings, as in Ephesians 4; 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. We are called to work as one unit, in one body, and to teach one message. Sadly it seems, the focus too many are the membership wars into each denomination rather than to the body of Christ in general. To say “I am a Christian”, isn’t enough anymore. We must have a denominational name to show what we believe or people are confused. Christ’s words were not confusing, yet man has complicated and hindered them severely.

As many know I write much on the subject of unity, and truth. There is one solid truth, let no person tell you otherwise. There are storms coming that will rock the foundations of the church walls. Prophecy has already foretold it. Without unity, many of the souls that could have been saved will not be, and many that did know God will walk away due to these divisions. There is strength in true unity. Much like the Spartan warriors, each warrior protected the man to his side. They worked only as a unit, guarding each others life. We as the body of Christ need to do the same. We must learn to walk shoulder to shoulder, side by side in perfect unity. We are at war with the principalities of evil, and these divisions give opportunity to their victories.  God is rising up generals that will lead his church to victory.  Stand today in your church and declare a movement of unity.
