Humility: according to Wikipedia, is the quality of being modest, reverential, even politely submissive, and never being arrogant, contemptuous, rude or even self-abasing. In the Christian faith it is a virtue that is spoken of many times in the Holy Bible, and it is said that without this humility an individual can not gain the rewards of eternal life and salvation. It is the understanding of who we are without Christ in our lives. Without his constant guidance, we are lost -amen. We need his spirit to watch over us day and night. We are nothing without him.

The Holy Bible warns us of such things that are opposite of humility, such things as pride. The definition of pride according to Wikipedia is either a high sense of one's personal status or ego or the specific mostly positive emotion that is a product of praise or independent self-reflection. In proverbs 16:18 we can read, Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. (Haughty meaning arrogant or stiff) What this means is, if we ever forget who we are or where we come from, we are doomed to failure by our own actions. If we forget that he is the head, and begin to think of ourselves as the “top dog” we have already lost a big part of the spiritual battle. If we begin to use our successes to intimidate or lift ourselves up destruction is inement.

Now this is not saying that we can not be excited or joyful over the success the Lord gives, it just means, to simply remember who cleared the way first –amen. Often in man’s success it is in our nature to feel pride, we are taught it as children, and taught that it is good. Though in the spiritual, it is anything but good. The only pride we as Christian should take is the knowing that our father in Heaven is faithful to grant us good things as we become ready for them. As he prepares us, and as we learn things such as obedience, humility, and honor, he begins to open the doors, and makes a way for us, as any good father will do.

Sadly, in our country and in this world, we have far too many people; who, at one time were full of God’s love and compassion, but now seem to be overridden with self pride. They have exalted themselves above the common man and forgotten the word humility. They seemed to have forgotten the ministering part of being a minister and have let their success physically, destroy themselves spiritually. They appear to have forgotten the lost and walk as the Pharisee did, seeking only the fellowship of vain men. Jesus said in Mark 2:17 “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance”. This scripture says, if we are ministers, we are called to the sinner, not just the saint, and we are not to forget this.

Today, let us simply remember God, and all that he has done in our lives. Take a moment and give him thanks for the successes that we see, and the doors he has opened. Let us remember who we are in Christ, and where it is we came from; remembering that we were lost once and remain only by his grace. May each of us this week go out into the fields and show someone God’s real love and that we, as the body of Christ care about them.
