THAT WE MIGHT LIVE
GOOD ANSWER BELOVED! MORE
This question is a GREAT question. It is very true that Jesus died so that we might live, but there is a much deeper answer that that. Jeremish shows us, among many scriptures, why Jesus came to die for his people.

(From the Greek Old Testament) Jeremiah 38:32-33,"because they did not abide in my covenant, and I was unconcerned for them, quoth the Lord, because this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, quoth the Lord."

Israel came out of Egypt, and God created a covenant with them. Israel broke this covenant because of their sins, and a "renewed" covenant, not new covenant, had to be made to bring Israel back to God, and have their sins forever forgiven. God accomplished this by sending his son Jesus Christ to die(be sacrificied) for the sins of his people, Israel. Israel includes both Jew & Gentile that comes to him through faith.

Sin is the breaking of God's law. Jesus came back to take these sins away by establishing the renewed covenant. He himself spoke of this renewed covenant at the last supper. Matt 26:27-28,"Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." So Jesus died to bring his people back to God's law, that we may be obedient to it, staying away from sin. Living a Law-observant lifestyle is the only way to prove that you are saved by faith in Jesus, and that you love them both.

Be blessed,

GOOD ANSWER, MY BELOVED JAMES
Depending upon the angle you look from, Jesus did not "have" to die. He was however created in such a way that He, being fully God and fully man could meet the criteria of a perfect sacrifice. Man needed a redeemer without sin. There had never been a human born without sin since sin made its appearance in man's bloodline.
Without getting extremely wordy the simple answer would be. God's love for man could no longer stand the separation sin had placed between God and man. (Does that sound pompous?) Okay. Love was the reason and a pure bloodline was the vehicle. My definition of pure bloodline is the fact that the Holy Ghost implanted the seed into Mary. The DNA was not only setup by God it was delivered by God with no human intervention.
