What is your approach to counseling someone that is NOT a Believer (considering your counseling degree)?

I am a minister and a degreed counselor/therapist and I find it difficult sometimes to not just give people a scripture to believe and follow(as taught as a minister). I am aware that there are practical applications to all issues/problems even if they are spiritual. Please share your thoughts and or wisdom on the matter. Thank you
