You Are Not Alon

Each Sunday morning, when I stand before our congregation, I feel the burden of a grave responsibility. I know that each person might be facing some serious private issues and challenges in their lives – some of which might even be life threatening. It is important that when I stand there, I am armed with the right word from God to help each individual deal successfully with the various challenges of their lives. It is also important that I deliver that word in a simple way; so simple and straightforward that they remember it for the rest of the week, and hopefully, the rest of their lives.

I feel exactly the same way each time I sit to post a sermon, note, or article to you via this blog.

God’s word to you today is very simple and brief. First, store the following verse in your memory

"So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?""

~Hebrews 13:6

There was a Native American tribe that had an interesting way of training their young men. On the night of a boy’s thirteenth birthday, he was placed in a dense forest to spend the entire night alone. Until then, he had never been away from the security of his family and tribe.

But on this night he was blindfolded and taken miles away. When he removed the blindfold, he was in the middle of a thick forest, by himself.

Every time a twig snapped, feelings of terror entered his heart. Every time an animal howled, he imagined a wolf leaping out of the darkness. Every time the wind blew, he shivered—not with the cold, but with fear of what dark spirits might be haunting his remote location.

Long hours later, the first rays of sunlight shone down on the place where he had been tossing and turning. Looking around, the boy noticed that the terrifying shadows of the night before were ordinary trees, bushes and rocks.

Then, to his astonishment, he saw the figure of a man standing just a few feet away, armed with bow and arrow. It was his father. He had been there all night long, bow drawn, arrows ready—watching over his son in the darkness.

The night may be dark, and the threats real. The dark jungle might be a very lonely place; but, you know what? You are not alone.

As you go through this week, as you confront the harsh realities of the circumstances of your life, even as the waves of panic surge through your bones, remember this: you are not alone.
The Lord Almighty Himself is watching over you. He will not let the sun smite you by day, and will not allow the moon smite you by night. No harm will be allowed to destroy you. You will come out strong, victorious, blessed, and favoured.

Keep this in mind: you are not alone.
