To be an apostle is one that is set apart, called, chosen by God with the heart of a builder, heart for God's people, A Holy Calling The bible declares Many Are Called But Few Are Chosen. Im glad that Im to be in that number. Its a totally different anointing & mandate, No matter how much you want to be apart the world. Your inner man Keeps yerning & burning For the Presence God & The Truth!!! I hope I have explained it as plain as I possibly could. I like to hear from other Apostles for your experience of your calling in the Apostolic Office.

You have indeed touch on a touchy subject to many. I believe that in this time God has called some to be Apostles and Prophets, etc. I believe for some they are called to pursue and apostolic destiny to bring this gospel to nations and plant church that the gospel of Jesus Christ is preached and established in the land. And I have known many to do this without the title Apostle and many with the title Apostle doing no such thing. But I believe what the Apostle Paul said (Phil 1:17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.
Phil 1:18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,)

You have raised an excellent question and I shall answer it according to the Bible's definition of Apostle. Paul is the greatest of the Apostles so we will use him as an example. First and foremost it is one of the 5 callings of Jesus. You must walk in First Corinthians 9:22 to be a Messenger of God and an Ambassador of His Kingdom. An Apostle also has the gifts to cast out demons and heal the sick in the name of Jesus. I hope this helps you to understand the basic functions of the calling.
