This isn’t my favorite holiday that’s coming, but I do look forward to Thanksgiving and especially Christmas. I have fathered 6 children, and now in my middle ages it’s time to have fun with my grandchildren. Every year at this time we have a family outing to look for the prize and pick the perfect pumpkin to carve.

Last year my granddaughter picked all of the pumpkins we would later cook and carve. We have a way of carving our prizes like maybe no one else. We take a blank sheet of paper, and draw the faces we want to carve. It takes a bit of doing and time passes slowly because we might go through quite a few tries, but afterwards we have the choice picks and they are some beauties to carve.

Our patterns are smiles, grimaces, and twinkle faces with stars. The pumpkins are cleaned out prepared and ready to carve, and that’s our objective. The trick in carving a pumpkin is not to get to bold with your knife.

We chose this year 3 pumpkins all different sizes and we have a good time together with this project. The finishing touch will be a candle that will give light to those who might come to our door.

We do not hang sheets from the trees, nor put up grave stones in the yard, or play creepy music, or dress in costume, but we do have fun with the children who come for a treat and a look at our little pumpkins that we all had a hand in carving this year.

Blessings Steven
