Intecessory prayer is when a person prays on behalf of another. Much of the time one prays in the spirit when they intercede for someone else. "And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." Rom 8:27 Also Rom. 9:26

Intercessory prayer: one who stands in the gap (intercede) on behalf of a situation, person, or problem. Moses was an intercessor for the Isrealites (Exodus 32:10-14) Jesus is our intercesssor (Romans 8:34) for us when we pray. I Timothy 2:5 tells us "For there is one God and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. According to Romans 8:26-27 we (believers filled with the Holy Spirit) are all called to intercessory prayer.
This is just the basic.
