first it is the Bible most often refers to the 'Holy Ghost" as the Holy Spirit, which is the third person of the trinity. Now the Bible says that when we are saved that the Holy Spirit comes and dwells with us, (John 14:16) forever, so my Question is how can you catch something, or some one who is with you. Now, what others may be referring to when they say that they caught the Holy Ghost is that they were caught in the atmosphere created by the worship and praise of God through the utterances of others in the Holy Spirit. Yet, if that individual has never received Christ, then they have never received the holy spirit or so much as caught the Holy Ghost, but may have possibly had an encounter with emotional outward expression of what they believe to be a move of the Holy Ghost. In the situation with Mary ( mother of Jesus) when the Holy Spirit overshadows then the off spring will produce and there will be power in the atmosphere or in the midst of the people. When the Holy spirit falls in a place, such as in the Church it brings forth transformation, healing and revelation. There are two ways that the Holy Spirit operates, baptism, and filling. So when people say that they have 'caught' the Holy Ghost, do they know what they are saying and more less do they know what they mean. I could go on but as you know we only get 15-20 min LOL. God Bless.
I was reading a few minutes ago and Charles Ryre Says this, " there seem to be two facets to Spirit filling. The first may be described as a sovereign act of God whereby he possesses some one for a special activity.... the second facet of Spirit filling may be described as the extensive influence and control of the Spirit in a believer's life; it evidences an abiding state of fullness rather than a specific event" ( Basic Theology,1999, p.434)
