Curing Existential Boredom

Is our boredom in life so consuming that we have to live vicariously through the internet in order to feel that we are worthy of being someone's friend? Are the days of creating genuine face-to-face friendships over in lieu of the impersonal implications found within creating connections online. Yes I believe in connections made online but will those connections that we make online be connections that we actually utilize or simply to say that we have someone with whom we can converse! Flowing from the same principle, are people from our past that we reconnect with, is it truly a re-connection or a re-opening of old wounds at times?
