Darryl “D’Lo” Hutchins known as The Bernie Mac of Christian Comedy provides good clean humor for all audiences. Darryl engages the audience and keeps them entertained throughout the entire show. Whether your church, business or family is organizing a large conference, reunion or a planning a private party for prospective clients, Darryl provides the right atmosphere to get your audience laughing.
Darryl Hutchins -- The Early Years: Darryl grew up in Leeds, AL (just across the railroad tracks from NBA star Charles Barkley) and attended high schools in Moody, AL; Birmingham, AL; Kansas City, MO; and Jackson, MS. His father, Herman Haaziq was career military, so it required a lot of travel. He moved back home to Birmingham, where he started doing comedy in local area clubs. He soon became a regular on the Birmingham comedy club circuit. He performed regularly during amateur night at the Stardom Comedy Club.
Darryl Hutchins – On The Move: In early 2000, Darryl moved to Baltimore, MD where he worked in medical billing for P.G. County Hospital. While in Baltimore, he dedicated his life back to Christ. Later that year, he relocated to New Bern, NC where he worked as a rep for Embarq Telecommunication’s residential dept. He decided to get back into the comedy scene and started performing clean Christian comedy. Over the next few years, he started producing and hosting his own comedy shows. His supervisor advised him to take his comedy to a larger city. Darryl, yet again, uprooted himself and moved to Raleigh, NC. Since then, he has touring and headlining across the country doing Christian comedy and has appeared on several TV shows & radio stations. His comedy has been featured on The Donnie McClurklin Show. Darryl performed with Vickie Winans, DeWayne Woods, Cynthia Jones, Marshetta Parker & many other recording artists. He has performed on stage with comedians such as best-selling author Pat G’Orge-Walker (Sister Betty), John Gray, Chinnitta Morris (formerly “Chocolate” on Comic View), Marc Henderson (formerly on Comic View), just to name a few.
Darryl Hutchins – Businessman: Darryl is the founder of Upstage Comedians, a booking agency for clean & Christian comedians. His company features clean & Christian comedians from around the country. They range from stand-up comedians to ventriloquists. His company also features other acts such as psalmists, gospel rap artists & praise dancers.
Darryl Hutchins – The Ministry: Darryl was licensed as a minster at the age of 14 while a member at Skylight Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. He served and studied under Pastor T.L. Arnick. Darryl now travels doing Christian comedy and ministering the Word of God. Darryl thanks God for an awesome gift and he realizes with this gift comes great responsibility. Darryl doesn’t pray to be funny at his shows; he prays that God gives him an effective word for the audience. When Darryl hosts comedy shows in his home town, he may perform altar calls when led by the Spirit. At the end of his shows, many souls have come forward for prayer, rededicate their lives to Christ, or just want a renewed strength in the Lord.
His ministry is based on Luke 6:22 – “… Blessed are ye that weep now, for ye shall laugh.”
