Pray Up!

We will eat them for breakfast!

Even before Israel crossed the Jordan, the people knew that the land beyond the Jordan already belonged to them. After all, God Himself had promised it to them!

Nevertheless, it was frightening to cross the Jordan for the first time — into the unknown, the new! Additionally, the Jordan was flooded when Israel attempted to cross it. On the opposite side, there was no warm welcome. Instead, the towering walls of Jericho reached into the sky. It seemed like an impossible task to take Jericho and the land. Against this, the Word of God stood:
See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. (Joshua 6:2 NIV)

The victory was certain for the people! Nevertheless, the victory had to be enforced. There were undoubtedly still rumors of giants in the land. Now, it all depended on the right attitude! How would the people of Israel handle the challenges in their own land? We see the only right attitude in Joshua, forty years earlier:
We will devour them like bread. (Numbers 14:9 GW)

A new year lies before us, a year that no one has experienced yet. There will be Jerichos and giants in the year 2024: problems, conflicts, challenges. Our attitude matters now! According to Romans 8:37, we are more than conquerors. The upcoming year already belongs to us! And the enemies? We will eat them for breakfast!
