- Aljenon David Lewis-Cooper, the son of Mildred Cooper, is an 18 year old native of Los Angeles, California.
Aljenon grew up with many negative influences that caused him to suffer academically and have behavior problems in the classroom. As a result, he went through many troublesome phases. However, hardships in school didn’t stop Aljenon from thanking God for his health and strength.
He had grown up in the church and knew what it meant to give honor to God. Because of that, Aljenon knew that God was about to create change in his life, and on March 27, 2004, during the Southern California Inter-Jurisdictional Youth Fellowship, God did just that. At Testimonial Cathedral COGIC, where Bishop j. Bernard Hackworth is pastor, Aljenon stood and preached his first sermon. It was entitled “If it’s not one thing it’s another.” Aljenon will never forget the moment.
While in California, he attended Prayer Faith Deliverance Church of God in Christ, where Elder Leroy Ramsey is pastor. As a member at Prayer Faith Deliverance COGIC, he served as youth choir director, vice president of the Young People Willing Workers (YPWW) and special assistant to the Pastor. Aljenon, also musically talented, played the guitar at his church.
In October 2005, he moved to Shreveport, LA as an heir to a home that his grandmother had left for him and his mother. As Aljenon traveled from Los Angeles to Shreveport, he sensed things were going to turn around for him. Soon after his arrival, they did.
The first change was Aljenon’s attitude, behavior and relationships in school. He enrolled as a freshman at Booker T. Washington High School. He fell in love with the school because the students and teachers were friendly, warm and welcoming. As he became acclimated to his new environment, his grades started to improve. He became academically and behaviorally strong and disciplined. He joined school organizations that made him feel accepted. Key Club, drama, and band became an incremental pasrt of his social life.
As a senior, Aljenon is president of the Future Business Leaders of America. In the 2006-2007 school year, he was awarded honor roll student. In 2007-2008, he was awarded Spanish student of the year.
As things slowly progressed for Aljenon, he began to notice the second major change on his life – his spiritual calling. On January 18, 2006, as the spirit led, he felt the move of God and preached his first sermon in Shreveport. The following year Aljenon became a licensed minister in the Church of God in Christ.
Aljenon is a member at the Bryant Temple COGIC in Shreveport where Elder Leroy Ealy is pastor and Joann Ealy is first lady. Aljenon serves as youth minister. In that role, he frequently visits the juvenile detention center to encourage young people. He shares his testimony, encourages them and gives them hope.
Aljenon David Lewis-Cooper finds joy in sharing his testimony. He gets filled with excitement as he shares how on June 10, 2008, during a three-night shut-in, God filled him with the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He feels because of his tenacity and faith, God fulfilled the promise of His spirit within Aljenon.
Like Numbers 23:19: God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
Since that glorious day, Aljenon’s life and ministry hasn’t been the same.
