Bishop Christopher Cates spent his early childhood years growing up in Nassau on the island of New Providence. In the 1960’s, his family moved to Freeport on Grand Bahama, but he returned to Nassau over 30 years ago.

He was called from a young age to work with the poor, hurting and disenfranchised. He carried out his outreach to all people; wherever situated, in whatever condition, emergencies or needs. The essential aspect of his outreach was to serve the whole man: spiritual, social, moral, and provide material welfare as they concerned those in distress in the community. He worked in conjunction with statutory bodies and other voluntary societies. He also acted as a “bridge”, particularly to those in the community who had no ties, or very loose ties, with a church, or those denying any spiritual commitment or acknowledgment of God. Instead of the traditional formal approach, he used different and varying methods in encouraging men and women to consider the claims of Christ. Most effectively by friendly conversation; person to person contact; and by practical self-giving and self-effacing service at the deepest point of a person’s need.

After many years of service in compassion outreach, God called him to the ordained ministry. He received his initial counsel for the ministry from Pastor Charles Clifford Smith II, and later mentored under Bishop Andrew Stewart and Bishop Wilfred I. McKinney.

Bishop Cates is a man of ardent compassion and continues to serve as the Executive Director of Operation Compassion (Bahamas).

Bishop,
My name is Charles E. Mitchell Jr.
I have to tell you this. Your church was birthed the yaer I was naturally birthed 1st connection. That tells me you are very wise. 2.) The spirit of the LORD makes no mistakes, I say that because I do not hang out on this network alot at all. I do not try to open my own doors. What are you saying? I had no ententions of typing this message. I was trying to contact an apostle from Texas and this is how we communicate. So there must be a door here that he wants me to walk through so, I walk onin and right into your life. TEACH ME!
