Apostle Joseph B. Howard, Sr. has two sons, Joseph II (Elizabeth) and Timothy (Bonnie) Howard. He has two grandsons, Francisco and Taj Howard. Pastor Howard was medically retired from the United States Navy after Operation Desert Storm where he served as a mechanical engineering supervisor in the Submarine Force. While in the Navy he earned a bachelor’s degree in Adult Education. He worked as a tutor and later as a special education paraprofessional for the North Chicago School District #187 upon retiring from the Navy. He later medically retired from San Diego City college as an English and ESL instructor.
In January of 2004 Elder Howard’s autobiography was published entitled “The Call and The Cold War, My Duty and My Destiny”. He wrote “Battered Clergy; from Victim to Victor in 2006 and immediately won the Power Award (Dayton, Ohio) for new inspirational literary piece. He also won the Novels to Film Competion 2008 for Battered Clergy. His fourth work is titled “Beyond the Prison Walls, by Grace Came Restoration” due out in December 2009. Dr. Howard was included in the 2005-2006 Edition of The Empire Registry (New York, New York) of Who is Who Among Business Executives and Professionals in the category of Religion. Dr. Howard also won the Distinguised African-American Employee of the state of Arizona in 2008.

Rev. Joseph B. Howard, Sr. Th.D. is a third generation steel worker and a retired post-secondary educator. Born amidst the red haze and coke dust of the gritty steel mills of Gary, Indiana, he enjoyed writing as a child. A product of the Gary Public School System he later joined the United States Navy. He has a master’s degree in Biblical Studies and a doctorate in Christian Education. He retired from post-secondary instruction in 2006 from San Diego City College. Dr. Howard was honored for his work in the literary and ministry fields by the State of Arizona in February of 2008. He presently works as a para-educator for Dysart Unified School District # 89 in Surprise, Arizona. Dr. Howard is the apostle and founder of Sovereign Grace Christian Center Cogic and Phoenix of Grace Inspirational Ministries Cogic of Surprise, Arizona under the jurisdictional leadership of the Bishop George D. Mckinney of San Diego, California.

Apostle Howard's latter-day mission is simple, to minister to men and women in dry places. He preaches a victorious word of hope to those that society has deemed as hopeless, lost, and unworthy. Isaiah 61:1-7
1The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
