Excerpt from "A Costly Anointing"
If a value could be placed on what you offer God, what would it be?

Matthew’s Account: Matthew 26 vs 6-7 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

Jesus went to the house of Simon the leper, this shows that Jesus has no respecter of persons, Simon was one seen as a social outcast because lepers were rejected in those times and in most cases band outside the cities.

This woman, whose name is Mary, was making preparation ahead of time for Jesus’ visit. She was expecting a mighty visitation from him so she stored up her wealth to pour into the perfume/oil of alabaster jar for him and waited. For whom are we storing up our treasures? All she needed was to hear that he was in town and she would be ready to pour it all on him. She was not giving Jesus anything cheap, she was giving him something costly because she saw he was worthy of it. The word says that it was very expensive; this was quality stuff she was giving Jesus. I am sure that the fragrance filled the entire room and then wafted outside and drew the attention of everyone. What fragrances are we emitting, are they sweet smelling and draw others? What is the quality of praise, worship and sacrifices we give to God, is it expensive? Do we give our all when it comes to Kingdom business?It is said that the worth of this perfume was the equivalent of a year’s salary so we know this was of a very high value. What value do we place on what we give to God? Our time, our offering, our worship and the work we do for this kingdom?

Mark’s Account: Mark 14 vs 3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.

Out of deep love this woman gave Jesus something that was and costly called nard. Nard is said to be grown in India but very rare; because of its substance and limited amount it is very expensive and is said to be pure.
