A native of Norfolk, Virginia and is the fourth child of eleven children. His parents are James H. Jones, Jr. from Currituck, North Carolina and Catherine Isaac Jones from Springfield, South Carolina. His mother was his first Bible Study teacher and minister. By the age of 9 years old, he began his love for ministry, where his mother taught him to conduct home Bible study and prayer services with his siblings.

Minister Jones graduated from Maury High School in 1972; served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp (1975 – 1978) and is a service connected disabled veteran. In accolade, he has earned the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Applied Psychology from California State University at Long Beach (1988); Master of Science in Education, Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas at Lawrence (1991); and Masters of Divinity, Theology from Virginia Union University-Proctor School of Theology, Richmond, Virginia (2010). He has served as Executive Director for Connecting Solutions, Inc. (CSI) providing empowerment training to local area youth and families. He also has provided in-service trainings and conferences for high quality mental health services and college preparation throughout the country; and has taught public middle school special education in Chesapeake and Norfolk.

Additionally, he has served as Youth Sunday School teacher and has provided servant-leadership as the founding Chair Emeritus of the Ministry of Men on the M.O.V.E. (2004 – 2008) at Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church (MGMBC). At MGMBC, where he was licensed to preach the gospel on January 24, 2007 under the prophetic leadership of Rev. Dr. Shelton Murphy, Pastor, he is an Associate Minister and serves in various ministerial capacities. He has completed his first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) toward Board Certification as a Chaplain, under the esteemed spiritual leadership development of Rev. Chaplain Stephen Goss, at Bon Secours Health Systems-Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia (2011).

In 2001, his daughter and three of her college peers were involved in a fatal car accident. Her death drew him nearer and closer to God. During his increased faith walk, the Holy Spirit visited him, changing his life, renewing his mind and creating him a new creature in Christ. He thanks God for allowing him to be a servant-leader in His Vineyard and praises God for the opportunity to worship Him, in spirit and in truth, through his teaching, preaching and counseling the Word of God, heralding the gospel in the Name, Lord Jesus the Christ. He gives hallelujah praises to God for His grace, love, and mercy in the pardoning of his transgressions and spiritual transformation.

Hallelujah praises and thanksgivings to God, he gives through Jesus Christ for His shed blood, Jesus’ Bodily Resurrection and the opportunity to sow into the lives of God’s people, his children and grandchildren: LaTisha (LaShanta and Shakena), Janara, Robert, Jr. (Robert Cameron), Cameron (Deceased), Kassandra (Savonte and Katerah), Gabrielle and Arielle. Hosanna in the highest, he declares, Solas Deo Gloria, All for the Glory of God!
