Matthew 5:9
Pastor Silvester Hampton dedicated his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 6, 1988, and on the profession of his faith, accepted his calling into the ministry in April 1996. God has always had his hands on Pastor Hampton, even as a small child. His parents and childhood friends have often stated that he was very different from other children. He wanted to help the less fortunate and displayed an unconditional love and compassion for everyone he met. He became a positive role model as a young man and has continued to change and touch the lives of young people on a daily basis.
A native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, he attended South Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Having pursued a career in law enforcement, he eventually joined the Charleston, South Carolina Sheriff’s Department. He worked with the United States Department of State Diplomatic Security Division and served honorably and internationally in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. Currently, he is an 20 year veteran with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and has a Masters in Public Safety Leadership from Johns Hopkins University. He is also a graduate of the District of Columbia Bible Institute and currently serves on their Board of Directors.
During his tenure in the United States Army, Pastor Hampton traveled extensively around the world and was exposed to the many moral and social ills that plague our society. He remained steadfast in his faith in God and often witnessed to people of various nationalities, backgrounds and cultures about the good news of Jesus Christ. Although he was met with opposition, he remained committed as a preacher and teacher to the spreading of the matchless name of Jesus Christ for he realizes that the Kingdom of God is at hand.
His current ministry, Back to the Basics Ministries, Inc., came to life out of necessity and was inspired by the problems that we face in society today. As a traditional gospel preacher and a police officer, Pastor Hampton believes that the escalating crime rate, death of our children from violence in the streets and all of the social ills that have plagued our society stem from the chronic breakdown of the basic family structure. His current endeavor is authoring a book entitled "Preaching and Policing - Conflict or Calling".
