Roland Alexander Foulkes, an 8th generation Floridian (on his mother’s side) and 2nd generation Bahamian American (on his father’s side), was born, educated and raised in racially segregated 1950s Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He began his education at the all-Black North Fork Elementary School, continued through the racially de-segregated Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Middle School and was the first Black student ever to attend, in 1971, and to graduate from, in 1974, Fort Lauderdale’s racially segregated all-White elite Pine Crest Preparatory School. These early life experiences shaped and expanded his commitment to better understand Human Diversity through university-level studies and research in Socio-Cultural Anthropology and to identify ways to eradicate what the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called the “Triple Evils” of Racism, Poverty and Warfare. This Cornell University and University of California at Berkeley-trained Medical Anthropologist has lived, taught, consulted, and researched in over 85 nations on 5 continents through such organizations as the United States Department of Health and Human Services (Washington, D.C.), United States Peace Corps (Ghana), the United Nations World Health Organization (Switzerland, China, South Africa, Bulgaria, etc.), the National Science Foundation (Botswana), the Fulbright Fellowships Program (Botswana), Georgetown University’s National Center for Cultural Competence (Washington, D.C.), among others.


He is the author of over 90 articles and book chapters, including “My Proposals for a Peaceful World in the 1980s” (My Proposals for a Peaceful World in the 1980s), “Global Organization and Transcultural Leadership in a Multicultural World” (Reviews in Anthropology, 1996), and his book, America’s White Ethnocracy: The Truth of the United States Presidency, From George-the-First (Washington) to George-the-Forty-Third (Bush)….and, to Barack Hussein Obama (Publisher to be announced in 2014).

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including two (2) John F. Kennedy Memorial Prizes for Public Service (Cornell 1978 & Peace Corps 2006), World Grand Prize & Gold Medal for his “My Proposals for…Peace” essay (International Cultural Society of Korea/Korea Foundation, 1980), Who’s Who Executive Worldwide (1994), the International Peace Prize “for practicing peace in thought, action and example locally and globally” (United Cultural Convention, 2011), and listing in the 2012 edition of The Dictionary of International Biography, 36th Edition (International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England).

A lifetime member of the historic 108 year old First Baptist Church – Pine Grove of Fort Lauderdale & Lauderdale Lakes, Mr. Foulkes, described by The Pine Crest Magazine (Fall, 2009) as a “Global Leader,” is an internationally recognized and sought after Diversity, Inclusion, and Leadership Consultant, Trainer, Author, and Public Speaker. In addition to his professional duties which include being the Founder and Chief Strategist for ONE BROWARD and Director for Public Relations and Governmental & Corporate Affairs for the Florida Intercultural Academy Charter Schools, he is an active volunteer throughout South Florida as the Former Chair of the Broward County Commission’s Multi-Ethnic Advisory Board and Diversity Advisory Council, a Founding and Current Member of the South Florida Diversity Alliance of Colleges, Universities and Community Based Organizations, current Chair of the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Hiring Practices and Procedures Committee (Of the BSO Council for Diversity and Equal Opportunity), and Current Chair, Diversity Committee, School Board of Broward County.
