Gen 2:7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground,
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;
and man became a living soul
(1+1=2)
the dust of the ground
+
the breath of life
=
soul
(a living being)
1Cor 15:45
And so it was written,
the first man Adam
was made a living soul;
Eze 18:14
Behold, all souls are mine;
as the soul of the father
so also the soul of the son is mine:
the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Ecc 9:5
For the living know that they shall die;
but the dead know not anything,
neither have they any more a reward;
for the memory of them is forgotten.
Ecc 9:6
also their love, and their envy, is now perished:
neither have they any more a portion for ever
in anything that is done underneath the sun.
Psalms 146:4
His breath goeth forth,
he returneth to his earth;
in that very day his thoughts perish.
Ecc 12:7
Then shall the dust returneth to the earth as it was
and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Ecc 9:10
there is no work nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom
in the grave wither thou goest.
Psalms 104:29
thou takest away their breath
they die and return to their dust.
Psalms 6:5
For in death there is no rememberance of thee
in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
1Thess 4:13
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren
concerning them which are asleep,
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so them also which sleep in Jesus
will God bring with him.
What did Jesus say about his friend Lazareth
who was ill and passed away before he got there?
John 11:11
...our friend Lazareth sleepeth;
I go that I may wake him out of sleep,
John 11:14
Then said Jesus unto them plainly,
Lazareth is dead.
Lazareth was asleep......dead
Jesus brought Lazareth back to life!!
John 5:28
Marvel not at this:
for the hour is coming,in the which
all in the graves shall hear his voice.
So when a person dies, the breath of life
goes back to God who gave it;
and then that person is asleep until a resurrection.
Some people think that the breath of life is their soul,
and at death they go immediately to God.
Let me ask you this,
If anyone deserved to go immediately to God
at their death,
wouldn't you agree, it would have been Jesus?
Yet, what did Jesus say to Mary
when he appeared to her after his resurrection?
John 20:17
Jesus saith unto her,
Touch me not: for I am not yet ascended to my Father;
Jesus was asleep in the grave for three days,
and then came his resurrection
