A Message For You

There is a whirlwind of activity in our everyday lives. Being a Christian doesn't mean that the problems of life will part like the Red Sea before you. Yet there are times when that is exactly what happens.

People tend to forget God's favor even moments after they've been blessed. This is not new. Remember the disciples murmmered among themselve about who Jesus was. They walked with him every day and still had trouble with identifying Him for who he was and is. There were those who… Continue

Ask and It Will Be Given

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. - Matthew 7:7

Often these words are taken at their face value. They are true on their face value. They are true on 3 levels; physical, mental & spiritual. Is there a way to maximize their effectiveness? Yes, there is. If the way started with the physical we would more than likely destroy ourselves with the "give me's". Imagine a child getting everything, I mean everything they ask… Continue

A Thought For The Day

“... that the way you treat others is the way you treat yourself. True respect for another comes from self respect. True love for another comes from self love. True forgiveness for another comes from self forgiveness.”

I got this quote from a friend, Alice, who got it from a friend. Its origin is not as important as it’s content. The principle of freedom is what makes it appealing to me. I have heard it said that we should treat people the way we would like to be treated. I beg to… Continue

Separation Of Church & State(Of Mind)

The founders of America entered into a covenant to create a government that would allow people to practice religion and worship God as they see fit. The Church establishes an order for its practitioners to live by. The state makes laws for it citizens to live by. The Church attempts to reach a person’s heart. The state seeks to dictate a person’s conduct.

The first separation of the church & the state is in the mind of the beholder. God said the wages of sin is death. The state says… Continue

Who You With?

In many places the answer to this question can determine whether or not you get out alive. It can get you what you came for or get you set up for the unexpected. In our walk as Christians we have been bombarded by doctrines and diverse teachings. Don't think you are the only one. We have all been victimized by what sounded good.

A fellow cleryman and I have discussed the story of Jesus' encounter with the lame man by the pool of water. As often as the topic came up the depth of my… Continue

Boundries

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

Acts 17:26

The operative here is that God made the boundries, not man. The limitations that we have are created by our lack of vision and allowing tradition to dictate our minds into being short changed of God's glory.

We agree that we will have life and have it more abundantly. We tell ourselves that… Continue

Beyond The Storm

When I look back over the times when I was going through a storm I have come to realize that what I was experiencing can be broken down like this. 10% of the issue was circumstance. 85% was my attitude, and 5% was my lack of vision.

My attitude could burn like a wildfire thus making the storm even bigger than it started out. My analytical mind could rationalize the circumstances to justify my attitude. My lack of vision is blown away for lack knowledge of the gifts that God has given me. I… Continue

Higher Heights of Glory

The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men. Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish."

Isaiah 29:13-14

The spirit of the law is lost in the effort to follow the letter of the law. This is where mediocrity creeps in. This is… Continue

Beyond Mediocrity

12Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Does this mean that I can turn water into wine? Does this mean I can heal the sick? Does this mean I can raise the dead. Does this mean that death has no power over me? Can I really do all things through Christ? According to John 14:12 I can do greater things than these. So why is my mind locked in… Continue

What Is Prayer To You?

A friend recently asked me what the purpose of Circle of Prayer Partners (COPP) is. My response was that the aim is to give people reminders to keep God first. The next question was what is prayer to me? My response was that if we are to pray ceaselessly there must be a way to accomplish that.

If the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart are to be acceptable in God’s sight the goal is not unattainable. We are waging a war of principalities. The spirit and the flesh are… Continue

Things That Make You Go, "ummm"

You Took My Parking Space at Church:

This should wake us up.

One day, a man went to visit a church. He got there early, parked his car and got out. Another car pulled up near the driver got out and…

A Line of Distinction

This topic seems to be hot again, and heating up even more. There is no question that the horse is out of the barn. How do you get it back in? I'm talking about same sex marriage. The lawyers and politicians want to draw the line to keep church and state separate. Well, my question is; does the state define matrimony as Holy, civil or just what is their definition? It is my opinion that marriages are still failing at an alarming rate because the civil is given more credance than the Holy. If… Continue

Desiderata

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater… Continue

Instructions For Young People

HOLY INSTRUCTION AND WARNINGS FOR ALL YOUNG MEN

1. Beware, young man, beware of all the allurements of wantonness, and let not the harlot tempt thee to excess in her delights.

2. The madness of desire shall defeat its own pursuits; from the blindness of its rage, thou shalt rush upon destruction.

3. Therefore give not up thy heart to her sweet enticements, neither suffer thy soul to be enslaved by her enchanting delusions

4. The fountain… Continue

Hope

Hope is such an intangible abstract. What is it based on, and how do I wrap understanding around it? I have often thought of hope as wishful thinking. There were times when I thought hope was faith in its infancy. I thought hope was composed of the positive things and the pep talks that were given to me in life. Hope seemed to me too weak to sustain someone in their darkest moments. Hope seemed to me to be equated with things like luck, or catching a good break or the idea that I might be saved… Continue

Do-Overs & Forgiveness

Once again it's inventory time. I'll see something or get a glimpse of a part of life when the moment seemed perfect, almost picturesque. A part of my mind will want to stay there, pick up life from that moment and live happily ever after. I think about dirt roads and smell the scent of pine and red clay. Sometimes its the sights and sounds of a Friday night in the city. When the eagle was flying and a dollar was worth 90 cents. I think of relatives and friends who seemed like permanent… Continue

Tears In A Chokehold

Its been said that a man ain't supposed to cry. Many of us had that beaten into us one way or another. Some of our mothers beat it into us. Some fathers, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts, grandparents, the streets, the farm, the school systems, the city, county, state and federal prisons. So many false impressions are hammered into our young peoples' minds until empathy and compassion are seen as handicaps among our young men. You are not supposed to look back at your history of whippings,… Continue

Can Men Talk To Men?

I have been in a blogging mood this past couple of weeks. Here is what's on my mind today. I know that it is second nature for man to want to communicate with women. Hey, I do the same thing. I haven't seen a picture of a man and said, "I'd like to talk to talk to him". Do we need to have man to man talks? There are so many things confronting our communities that we need as many forums as we can get. What about Christian men? Are we learning how to walk with God and present ourselves worthy to… Continue

Authority In The Kingdom

he question was raised in another group about Authority In The Kingdom and how it applies to us. It was commented on by a few people so we thought it should be addressed here: The word of God is so exciting! There are laws, covenants and traditions throughout the Old & New Testaments. All those things were fulfilled in Jesus' death, burial & resurrection. The fulfillment of the law is Love. To say that there is another doctrine to adopt is to say that the blood of Jesus was not… Continue

Spiritual Growth

As I live and grow one of the things that I've noticed is that when I become conscious that something is not beneficial to my life I must take action. It doesn't take as long to recognize as it used to, but it does require an introspective approach. Some people learn different techniques to get a "check-up from the neck-up", some never do and others are "ok" with themselves as they are. When I find that a habit or behavior is causing me problems I make the effort to change. It is usually at… Continue
