SIMPLE OBJECTS

SIMPLE OBJECTS

God often uses simple, ordinary objects to accomplish His tasks in the world. It is important only that we be dedicated to Him for His use. What do we have that God can use? Anything and everything is a possible "instrument" for Him.

A staff in Exodus 4:2-4. Moses used it to work miracles before Pharaoh.

Horns: Joshua 6:3-5 - Joshua used it to flatten the walls of Jericho.

A fleece: Judges 6:36-40 - Gideon used it to confirm God's… Continue

VICTORY CRY

VICTORY CRY

Joshua 6:20 "So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city."

The Israelites had waited 40 years to shout the victory cry.

Now they're at the goal. For six days they had followed God's commands and had marched silently around… Continue

What's Inside The Bags? Resentment And Revenge

Resentment is the cocaine of the emotions. It causes our blood to pump and our energy levels to rise.

But, also like cocaine, it demands increasingly larger and more frequent dosages. There is a dangerous point at which anger ceases to be an emotion and becomes a driving force. A person bent on revenge moves unknowingly further and further away from being able to forgive, for to be without the anger is to be without a source of energy.

That explains why the bitter complain to anyone… Continue

WHAT'S INSIDE THE BAGS? PAIN

PAIN

Perhaps the wound is old. A parent abused you. A teacher slighted you. A mate betrayed you. A business partner bailed out, leaving you a choice of bills and bankruptcy.

Are we angry.

Or perhaps the wound is fresh. The friend who owes us money just drove by in a new car. The boss who hired us with promises of promotions has forgotten how to pronounce our name. Our circle of friends escaped on a weekend getaway, and we weren't invited. The children we raised seem to have… Continue

WHAT'S INSIDE THE BAGS?

WORRY

Worry is the burlap bag of burdens. It's overflowing with "whaddifs" and "howells." "Whaddif it rains at our wedding?" "Howell we know when to discipline our kids?" "Whaddif we marry a person who snores?" "Howell we pay our baby's tuition?" "Whaddif, after all our dieting, we learn that lettuce is fattening and chocolate isn't?"

The burlap bag of worry. Cumbersome. Chunky. Unattractive. Scratchy. Hard to get a handle on. Irritating to carry and impossible to give away. No… Continue

UNLIMITED SOURCE OF JOY Nehemiah 8:10

What a glorious day! The people are finally celebrating the completion of their dream...the rebuilding of the wall around Jersualem. Yet, upon hearing the reading of God's laws, the people are cut to the heart, grieved by their sin. Nehemiah tells the people to put away their mourning, "For the joy of the Lord is your strength." How could they have joy in the face of their guilt and sorrow? How could they experience joy even when they had neglected God's ways?

Let's bring this into our own… Continue

HOME

The power of a strong relationship sustains us and gives us strength...it's that power in knowing. If we fail, our friend is still there, or if we fail, we have a spouse who still loves us. It's the power in knowing that no matter what we have a Father who still loves us.

In repairing a relationship, it's essential to realize that no friendship is perfect, no marriage is perfect, no person is perfect. With the resolve that we are going to make a relationship work, we can develop peace… Continue

ARE YOU WILLING TO LOVE? (Part 2)

POWER TO BECOME

God said in the Bible that "we are like sheep who have gone astray" and that "all of us have sinned and fall short of His glory." He also said that the "result of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." He says that if we turn from our sin knowing that Jesus paid the penalty for our sin on the cross and receive Him into our heart and life, He will give us the power to become His children. That power is His Holy Spirit's giving… Continue

ARE YOU WILLING TO LOVE? (Part 1)

"Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" Matthew 22:39

Question: Do we believe we can truly love our neighbor without loving God first?

Someone has said that love is something we do and that's true. Love is a conscious or subconscious decision to give ourselves to another person. There are many ways to love, but we're loving only when we desire to be. In other words, we have to decide to be loving...loving is an act of the will.

WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT?

Some… Continue

FREE TO BE ME (Part 3)

We can never be free to be ourselves if our personal relationships are warped and broken by resentment, rejection, and unforgiveness. The key to successful living, therefore, is being forgiven. If we don't receive forgiveness for our transgressions, we remain guilty. "Whenever we stand praying, forgive if we have anything against anyone, so that our Father who is in heaven may forgive us our transgressions" (Mark 11:25).

If we react with understanding and forgiveness, we see the power of… Continue

FREE TO BE ME (Part 2)

THE LAW OF SOWING AND REAPING

There is a spiritual law as binding as the law of gravity. It is the law of sowing and reaping. Jesus said, "If you forgive people their trespasses, that is, their reckless and willful sin, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment, your heavenly Father will also forgive you" (Matt. 6:14 AMP).

In all of life we reap what we sow. If we resent and reject, we are not even capable of accepting forgiveness from God or our loved ones. If we… Continue

FAITH

Don't build our house on a career. Don't build our house on a thrill. Don't build our house on a talent. Don't build our house on one solitary earthly relationship. Don't pursue things that don't last. Build our house on the only thing that can last: Faith.

Do we have faith? If we have faith, then we have what it takes to tackle our problems before they tackle us. If we have that confident hope, then we will know how to handle whatever life brings us.

One thing no one can take away… Continue

THANKFULNESS

Gratitude comes from having the right perspective. It's being able to look at what we have and being thankful for that, rather than longing for what we don't have.

Do we know why we should feel grateful? We are a part of God's plan, we are touched by God's tenderness, and we are a victor in G od's victory. What greater blessing could there be?

It's incredible that anyone could look at the kindness of God, the faithfulness of God, and the goodness of God and not feel any… Continue

HOSPITALITY

Here's a suggestion: We should all wear antennas to work, to church, to school. Antennas that pick on people who seem out of place, loneliness shows. Why not be the one to approach these folks and extend friendship to them? Maybe we think the last thing we need is another friend. But friendliness...hospitality...is a virtue that brings as much joy to the giver as to the receiver.

When we extend hospitality to others, we're not trying to impress people, we're trying to reflect God to them.… Continue

GOD FORGIVES

Alot of us live with a hidden fear that God is angry at us. Somewhere, sometime, some Sunday school class or some television show convinced us that God has a whip behind His back, a paddle in His back pocket, and He's going to nail us when we've gone too far. No concept could be more wrong! Our Savior's Father is very fond os us and only wants to share His love with us.

Could we use the genuine fresh air of God's forgiveness? Would we love to stand in the approval of God again? How do we… Continue

WORRY

The same God that gave us commandments such as "Do not commit adultery, do not murder" said, "Do not worry." It's a violation of our relationship to God to question His authority by worrying.

Has any good ever come out of any worrying that we've ever done? Worry only compartmentalizes us andmakes us unable to do what we set out to do. If we are worried about a problem, what we need to do is simply trust the Lord and do good.

The word worry comes from a word that means "to divide."… Continue
