Make Your Praise Glorious!

"Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you. They sing praise to you. They sing praise to your name. Selah. Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf!" Psalm 66:1-5.

Gospel artist Martha Munizzi has a song entitled, "Glorious." I use to play it often…

And the Wise Men Gave Gifts: What's Inside Your Bag?

Matthew 2:1-2; 10-12 KJV

(v1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem.

(v2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

(v 10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

(v11) And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell… Continue

Where Is A Good Street Walker When You Need One?!

Where is a good street walker when you need one?! I ask that question half tongue-in-cheek, but the black church has put emphasis in the past on getting prostitutes off the streets. This is good. With the same fervor in pulling women of the streets, we should be putting street walkers, evangelists on the streets as witnesses for Jesus Christ!

I said earlier this summer in one of my blog posts that the cults are out there out-witnessing us witnesses. This is one reason Christians are… Continue

Unity In the Community: If My People....

Life is a precious gift from God, but life has its strife. In the middle of those three words, "life," "gift," and "strife" is the word "if." Life is "iffy," too with its twists and turns. Most importantly, life is conditional, dependent upon the "if" of us doing our part in our relationship with God. If we do our part, then God will do His part.

One of the things we must do to build unity in the community and eliminate so much unnecessary strife is to focus on 2 Chronicles 7:14, and… Continue

Black Men Expected to Make Bricks Without Straw!

When it comes to black males in this economy, I am reminded of what Pharoah told the Israelites, make bricks without straw (Ex. 5:6-7). In many cases, black men have the desire to provide for their families and children, but not the means. They are expected to provide without provisions, the jobs necessary to make ends meet. We are experiencing the full affect of this economic recession right now. The current national unemployment rate is at 9.7%. Kentucky's…

Clean On the Inside, Clean On the Outside!

I like Christian apparel! I buy it. I wear it. I give it away. There are some who say we need to get rid of it because too many people are merchandising it and wearing it for all the wrong reasons. This is true. Jesus admonished those who wanted to clean the outside of the cup, but inside they themselves were full of greed and self-indulgence (Matthew 23:25).

We are in a spiritual war and I believe we should fight that war by any and every means necessary. If that means wearing a… Continue

The Prayers of the Righteous Availeth Much!

Father, what is it that we should be asking for today? Should we be praying more fervently for the lost that they will come to know You as Father on this Father's Day Weekend?

Lord, Should we be praying for our fathers as we encourage them with hugs and kisses, ties, and gifts that they will grow strong in You and the power of Your might? Should we pray more fervently for our families, our ministries, our jobs, our churches, our Sunday school classes, for health, education, and… Continue

T.G.I.F. And It's Good Friday!

A "bad" thing happened to Jesus on Good Friday, so what makes Good Friday so "good'? Jesus was falsely accused, scorned, rejected, whipped, humiliated, and nailed to the Cross on Good Friday. He suffered an agonizing death that day at the hands of the Jewish and Roman authorities. What happened on Good Friday definitely was not good, but the results were very good for you and me. Scripture tells us that because Jesus endured the suffering of the Cross, Christians can shout, T.G.I.F.!,… Continue

Go And Say, He Is Risen!

For those who still believe women are not called to preach the Word of God, you should know it is empowering to many women, and not just preachers, that God used a woman, Mary Magdalene to deliver the important message, "He is risen." "Jesus said unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God. And your God!" (John 20:17… Continue

T.G.I.F. and It's the 13th!

T.G.I.F., Thank God I'm Forgiven, and its Friday, the 13th again! Oh, is the 13th an unlucky number for you? Many people are running from black cats, avoiding ladders, tossing salt over their shoulders, and clinging to their lucky rabbit's feet, crystals, and good luck charms today in hopes of avoiding spells, voodoo hexes, and curses. You may not realize this, but church-going people are more superstitious than you might think. And many, particularly… Continue

What Type of Leader Are You Anyway?

What type of leader are you anyway? Ezekiel chapter 34 is a lesson on servant-leadership. If you are going to lead like Jesus, teach like Jesus, and love like Jesus, you must begin by serving like Jesus. Jesus was the perfect servant-leader. The Scriptures tell us that being a true servant-leader is how one receives the abundant blessing that so many people magically "claim" nowadays (in the name of Jesus, of course!), only there is nothing magical about servant-leadership. It takes hard work,… Continue

Exploring the Black Presence In the Bible

Quick, name three black people in the Bible! Exploring the Black presence in the Bible is important today like never before. Many African Americans don’t know the truth of their heritage. They think the Bible is a “white man’s book” due primarily to erroneous all-white depictions of Bible stories in some Bibles, and on television, and our failure to counter those errors with the truth of Scripture.

The Lord says my people perish for lack of knowledge. Far too many African Americans… Continue

Preachers Praying for Senator Barack Obama

This is a picture you won't see on Fox News. A pastor at my church sent this to me today. I don't when or where it was taken. I recognize Bishop Vashti McKenzie. See if you can recognize any other preachers. Senator Obama celebrates his 47 birthday on Monday, August 4th. Happy Birthday, Senator Obama!
