2010 FOOD FOR THOUGHT (session 11)

Have you not heard that it was said? Well…… tell it! (II Timothy 2: 2)

This Sunday the choir sang, “No Greater Love” Message: "Resurrection Power” preached by dear friend, Prophetess A. Davis.

Fascinating! The Lord blessed with the hearing of the choir. Inspiring words, and hearing God’s Word preached! Hearing, as we know, is simply perceiving by the ear, giving audience; listening to, attending favorably - by definition in secular terms.
….”the things that thou has heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also”…y, Timothy was in the Apostle Paul’s company oftentimes in missionary work. He was dear to his heart as a son. Regardless of his tireless efforts to serve the Lord; Timothy learned much and his “manner of life”. From all that Timothy heard , it was Paul’s desire that Timothy relay the same to those who were faithful, to those who later to received the Word. Who were these “faithful men” that would later to teach others also? What did Timothy hear about his leader/ “spiritual father”, Apostle Paul?
Alot!!
Thank God for Timothy hearing Paul’s life& about his–I would call,“special gift of pulpit etiquette”. The platforms Paul used in all his saluting & introducing those he loved in his epistles.
I find II Tim 2: 2 one of many fascinating/ inspirational advices for the hearer to ponder& for the believer to follow. We remember the ‘Great Commission’ we heard and read often from Matt 28: 19, 20. We go out “in all the world”. Yet, our Lord commands us to teach them to observe to do all things whatsoever I have commanded you…To teach who? Those who will faithfully hear.
The inspirational advice Paul encourages us literally is to “commit the same”. Whatever we have learned, experienced and heard of our Lord Jesus and all He has done, is doing and promised us; we are to share such with others who will eventually be able and willing to hear and teach others also. I boldly once shared in a Missionary meeting that “missionary work is on-going…even after souls are won to the Lord”
II Tim 2: 2 may also be encouraging us to speak positive things of our leaders. OMG! Am I stepping on some toes? Good! On a positive note, we have seen/heard the Lord using them & what we learn from them; we should encourage others to be “strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus”.We all heard a message this Easter Sunday. Let’s do something about it.
I believe one primary positive focus is the great things what the Lord is doing by what we hear from our leaders' preaching/teaching a great Word. I am quite certain Tim did carry out this advice (commit the same) from Paul. Timothy had a sense of urgency! (Acts 17: 15).More than likely many of us have carried out the same from our own leaders of “yester-years” or by some powerful influence to serve the Lord with all our might. Such experiences/testimonies we learned from them & they successfully led us to where we are in Christ. This is good isn’t it?
Much of Timothy in Acts records about his experiences/ministry life with his “spiritual father”, Paul. We can accept this because Paul saw about Timothy’s youth didn’t keep him from serving the Lord &the oppositions he faced to his own leadership (Acts 17: 14, 15, I Thess 3: 1-4, I Tim 4: 12-13 and II Tim1: 6,7)
I am fully persuaded that we are all a part of those “faithful men” (sisters included of course!) because we all heard of what great things the Lord has done. We heard someone else testimony of his amazing grace. Yes! We heard the song many times of His amazing grace. Let us to do as the scriptures in II Tim 2: 2 advise us to do, “commit…to faithful men”
