How It Will All End Part 2

Jesus Holds The Future (Revelation 1:1-6)
Notes and outline inspired from Dr. John MacArthur (Grace To You)

It was Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. that said “I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future”.
Here is an outline of the book of Revelation.

The Things Which You Have Seen (1:1-20)
The Things Which Are (2:1-3:22)
The Things Which Will Take Place After This (4:1-22:21

Let’s start with point one: The Things Which You Have Seen (1:1-20)

The first six verses of chapter one explains how Jesus holds the future through eleven characteristics of the book of Revelation:

It’s Critical Nature: Verse 1A says,” The Revelation…” Revelation means to reveal to uncover. The book of Revelation will uncover many things about the end times and how it will all end, as we shall see. But supremely, the book of Revelation uncovers or reveals the majesty and glory of the Lord Jesus Christ (Matt. 24:27).

It’s Essential Topic: Verse 1B says, “…of Jesus Christ…” Yes the book of Revelation is a book of revelations from Jesus Christ, but most of all it is a book of revelations about Jesus Christ. What is the book revealing about Jesus Christ? It is revealing of His majesty and glory in His second coming, because in His first coming He came in humiliation.

Its Divine Supply: Verse 1C says, “…which God gave Him…” The book of Revelation is the Father’s gift to the Son as reward for His faultless, unassuming, faithful, holy, service. The father said that He would exalt Him (Phil. 2:5-11).

Its Chosen Servants: Verse 1D says, “…to show to His bond-servants…” Only those who have surrendered all to Christ will be able to understand the book of revelation.

Its Visionary Quality: Verse 1E says“…the things which must soon take place…;” The book of Revelation contains some information about the past, present and the future.

Its Supernatural Delivery: Verse 1F says “…and He sent and communicated it by His angel…” The book of Revelation is the only book in the Bible sent and communicated by angels (Rev. 22:16).

Its Human Writer: Verse 1G says “…to His bond-servant John, who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw.” The Human being to whom the angelic messengers communicated the book of Revelation is John the disciple.

Its Promised Blessing: Verse 1:3A says “Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it;” Those who read and obey the book of Revelation will receive a blessing. (Rev. 22:7; Luke 11:28).

Its Compelling Urgency: Verse 3B says “…for the time is near…” Just like verse one the time is near. Time does not translate to a clock refers to seasons, epochs, or eras (Luke 12:35-40).

Its Trinitarian Benediction: Verse 4-5A says “John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth.”

• A: Seven churches (Rev. 1:11) which is modern Turkey.
• B: Him who is and who was and who is to come is the first person of the Trinity, God the Father (Rev. 1;8; 4:8).
• C: The Seven Spirits who are before His throne refers to the Holy Spirit. The number seven depicts Him in His fullness (Rev. 5:6; Isa. 11:2; Zech. 4:1-10).
• D: Jesus Christ a faithful witness which means he is the one who always speaks and represents the truth.
Jesus Christ the firstborn from the dead does not mean He was the first one raised from the dead, but that He is first in preeminence (Ps. 89:27).

Jesus Christ is the ruler of the kings of the earth, which means He is ruler of the whole world which makes Him God, the second person of the Trinity (Rev. 19:16; Ps. 2:6-8; Jer. 23:5; Zech. 9:9; Matt. 2:2; 21:5; Luke 19:38; 23:3; John 1:49)

Its Exalted Doxology: Verse 5B-6 says“…To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood, and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father - to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.”

• A: Released us from our sins by His blood refers to Christ death on the Cross.
• B: Christ made us His Kingdom (Col. 1:13).
• C: Christ made us priest to His God and Father, which means he gave us direct access to the Father (1 Peter 2:9-10).

• To Him (Jesus the Christ) be glory and the dominion forever and ever.
