22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it-he will be blessed in what he does.
James 1:22-25

Many of us go to church each and every Sunday, sometimes Tuesday or Wednesday, and others even more than that. I wonder how many hours we have spent in our lifetime hearing the preached/taught Word of God? How many revivals have we gone to? How many retreats and conferences have we attended? How many Sunday School classes, how many seminars, how many workshops? If there were really a way to measure that I'm sure it would really be impressive. But through all of that exposure to God's Word, not including our own personal study time, does our obedience to God's Word measure comparatively or does that column look embarrassing?

The scripture admonishes us not to just be listeners (hearers) of the word for to listen and not obey is like someone who looks in the mirror, walks away, and forgets what they look like. When you look in the mirror what do you see? Do you see the things in you that the Word has exposed that need changing? Do you see those things that God is calling you away from or closer to? Do you see the person that God wants you to become? Or do you walk away from the mirror - the Word- and forget?

Are you looking to be blessed? Are you looking to receive God's best for you? Then make sure that when you look into the mirror of the Word of God that you remember what you have heard, remember what you have read and begin to do what it says. The Word says that if you do, you will be blessed in what you do!
