I am teaching myself to play back-up guitar on the Sundays that one of the associate ministers preach. I am no BB King or Chet Atkins, but I manage to keep up with our Muscian. I was also chosen as the outstanding community man of the year-for contributions to the African American People in 1999. What was so special about this award and recognition is that it came from the NorthEast Texas Annual Conference of the AME Church. In 2007 I was one of 19 law enforcement officers in the entire state that was recognized and honored by the primary law enforcement governing body of our state. I was nominated for this award by a state representative. I currently serve on the board of trustees for the local Presbyterian Healthcare hospital.

I love to garden and like to think that I can golf a little. My mother passed away in October of last year after spending the entire day at church and with her family. She had been recuperating from surgery at a local nursing home. Upon her return that Sunday from being with us in worship and having a good times with her kids and grand kid, eating out with us as we celebrated my wedding anniversary, she told the nursing staff "I think I will go to bed early tonight." The nursing home administrator always checked in on her before he left each day. He told us that she normally would wake up and talk to him the moment he would enter her room. But that night, mama laid down and went to sleep and just slept on into glory.
