GUIDED BY THE SOUND by Rev. L.A. Artis, CEO of L.A. Artis Ministries, Inc.

GUIDED BY THE SOUND

What would you do if all of the lights went off around you right now?

Most of us would trust our memories of the last thing we think we saw and begin to move slowly and carefully around. We would feel comfortable for a short while and we would trust our memories of what we believe to be the last thing we think we saw but after bumping into a few things, stumping our toes a few times, and tripping over a few things we would begin to stop trusting our memories of what we thought we saw and begin to listen for slight variations in sound. We would stop trusting our eyes and we would slowly begin to trust our ears.

Blind people do this everyday. Blind people don’t walk around with their hands in front of them rather their bodies are relaxed and free. Sighted people are much more tense in their postures and in their motions. It is probably because they are concerned with how they look to others and how their movements cause others to look at them. Blind people don’t care what you think about how they move. They move organically, beautifully and freely because they don’t see your reactions. They move by sound. They are guided only by the sound.

Jesus trusts us not only to live lives that are guided by sight...He encourages us to be persons to be guided by faith and by sound. We are to know His voice so intimately that we don’t and won’t follow a stranger. He trusts us to walk not by what we see but by faith...because of what we have heard in the Supernatural Realm. He challenges us not to be moved by what we see but to trust what we have heard from Heaven.

People who are watching your life, your walk and your ministry do not understand why you are moving like you are moving. It seems that you are dancing to another beat; marching to the beat of another drum; and living your life quite differently that they would expect or ever imagine. Your courageous choices in the face of formidable foes, invincible enemies, incurable diseases, impoverished circumstances and lack of popularity cause naysayers to look at you with great turmoil in the cerebrum and cerebellum, much chagrine, and utter confusion. Based on all that they observe going against you, you should be somewhere heavily medicated, drunk, high, or just sullen because of the weight that is on your shoulders and the obstacles that you face. They don’t know that you are not guided by what is seen in the natural...rather you are guided by the sound of the Shepherd. You know His Voice and you know that He will never leave you nor will He forsake you. You are not in denial. You are fully cognizant of the struggle -- but you are also fully aware of the sound of Glory. It is what you hear with your spiritual ear that causes you to yet praise. It is what you hear in your heart that causes you to yet sing. It is what you hear in your souls that causes you to yet rejoice.

He is Great! He is a Great God! The Sound of His Voice is like thunder and yet it is a still small voice. Listen for the sound. Husbands He is speaking in the gentle voice of your praying wife. Wives, He is speaking through the consecrated soul of your priests. Parents, He is speaking through the innocent souls and pure hearts of your children. His Voice is blowing gently through the wind and His voice is in the glistening and cleansing drops of rain that pelt your windows and their sills. He is speaking through His Word, through His preachers, His prophets, His teachers and His oracles. He is speaking through the orange embers of the sunset and the glorious luminous glow of the sunrise. In the cool of the evening He is speaking through the shining diamonds of the stars and He is speaking to us from His heart directly into ours.

It is dark in my life Rev. Artis. I can’t see anything. I can’t see help! I can’t see my way out! I can’t see God!

Dear friend of mine, when you can’t see anything, I charge you, challenge you, encourage and urge you to be guided by the Sound.

Psalm 89:15 "Blessed [is] the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance."
