Being Messianic is not something one becomes, but rather something believes. In this method of walk, it is taught and believed that our "High Priest" is and always was Yeshua (Jesus) . Keeping Torah is no more about legalism than being pure or holy in the Christian aspect.
The word Mitzva means pathway. Yeshua taught He was the Mitzva (way), and with in his words lies the keys to life.
As a Mystic, there is not a process of conversion per sey, but a method of adoption. He adopts me as a son, I adopt his way of life, in exchange I get to live inside his house, and he provides this orphan with food, clothes and a good education. As I study to show my self acceptable to Him, he loves me deeper , and approves me even granting me access on a daily basis.
As a son I can be taught, directly, be disciplined, and even be played with.
For generations many felt that we are to legalistic out of ignorance. Understand we as a majority do not feel we are saved in keeping the "law" but rather if and when we are truly saved only then do we have the hope of keeping the law. (A subtle difference.). Righteous persons do not have to try not to murder, they will not murder because they are righteous (as an example).
It should be understood that as many Christians may feel we are too "Jewish" to be followers (to be Christian) , we are just not equally acceptable in tho Jewish circles, being accused of being to Christian as we teach his ways and embrace him not only as the Messiah (yes I emphasize "The" ) but the living "word" and only son!
One of my personal commitments even when I was a "pastor" among you was to fight prejudice. One major seed in that is ignorance. To this date I have not yet met a Messianic that asked that you agree with them, but that we try to understand, I continue to approach many diverse groups in Christianity with the message of reconciliation , as many of them only bear the walls of culture, and identify the message as the same.
I do not embrace, in fact I strongly oppose, the ideal of unity through compromise. Yes we too have many divisions with in the "community" but at the end of the day we ultimately are "Jewish" or "Messianic" Not Baptist, Catholic, Pentecostal etc. I remember when persons would ask "What are you" ? (In relation to my beliefs and faith) I would answer " A Christian" They would inquire and persist in having me adopt a banner, I had to be a Baptist Christian or something, Why? These divisions among us only reveal our national heritage and serve to divide. Some even emphasize a race.. to us these matters are trivial. We have many cultures, and races represented with in community, and I love to watch face expressions when I now answer "No you do not have to be "Jewish" to be Messianic.. " Indeed, all I need do is take up my cross and follow ...
