Notes from "Amazing Grace" (Disc 2):
www.LighthousePrayerLine.org

Martin Luther once said, "We should never do anything that isn't needful to our neighbors. The first fruit of
the gospel is love, not only righteousness."

We should see prayer and evangelism as a privelege instead of a necessity. It has been argued by Arminian
that the Doctrines of Grace undermine the need for evangelism. However, the greatest evangelists in the
history of the world (for the most part) have been Calvinists.

R.C. Sproul: "We look at the mirror of law so that we can see our uttermost need for a Savior."

The lack of preaching the law dims the light by which man perceives his guilt. Not knowing the nature of
sin will (likewise) will yeild the ignorance of not knowing the need for a Savior.

Many self-help programs (12 Step) speak much on the cure without little-to-no explanation on the disease.
Because of this, false conversions happen due to a focus on Grace to the exclusion of the Law. John
Wycliffe says, "we should preach 90% law & 10% grace. Law makes grace available through conviction."

"Satan, the god of all dissention, stirs up (daily) new sects. He has raised up a sect such as to teach
that men should not be terrified by the law, but gently exhorted by the preaching of the grace of Christ"
(Martin Luther). The Gospel must be preached (taught) in this order: law (disease) ==> repent (change)
==> grace/salvation (cure).

The Bible says that "the one who reaches souls is wise." Therefore, we should always ask for wisdom. We
should be as gentle as doves, but as wise as serpents.

We need to realize that our bodies are frail vessels, so that the Holy Ghost is enabled to work at a higher level.

Prayer and apologetics could be the two most useful tools for growing in faith through grace. Truth is more
absolute than the world thinks. Through witnessing, we can relate to people on any level via apologetics
(convincing). Every apologetic method may have a role to play: "Answer a fool according to his folly, lest
he be wise in his own eyes" (Proverbs 26:5).

We are told in the Bible that many of us simply suppress what we may already know. "For the wrath of God
is revealed from the heaven against all men, who suppress the truth in righteousness, because what may be
known of God is in them, for God has shown it to them" (Romans 1:18,19).

Surveys show that 82% of Americans call themselves Christians. But yet, we have less influence today than
at any other time in American culture. So what is wrong - is what we are believing! Today, the content of our
message has followed the "result-oriented" approach to soul winning. The message is more palletable so as
to get the maximum number of people to profess themselves as Christians.

Instead of offering food (preaching) for sheep, we've made the gospel food for goats. Now, there are goats
everywhere. People will not come if you do not entertain them. The gospel has been watered down so it
can avoid conflict. Fear of God has been removed from our preaching (evangelism).

"The nature of Christ's salvation is woefully misrepresented by the present days' evangelist. He announces a
Savior from hell, rather than a Savior from sin. And that is why so many are finally deceived; for there are
multitudes who wish to escape the lake of fire (who have no desire to be delivered from their carnality &
worliness)" [A.W. Pink - Saving Faith, 1930].

R.C. Sproul has said, "We teel people that they don't need to repent. God loves them just the way they are.
The only reason to come to Jesus is to have greater peace or greater happiness ... or a better trip than they'll
get from drugs. That's not the Gospel - at all!"

We tell people all the time that God loves you just the way you are. God's love has the purpose of redeeming
us and changing us. God does not love us just the way we are. God loves us so that we can be what He wants
us to be. If you were to tell a wise nonbeliever the alternate, he's probably going to say, "Then why should I
change?"
