Donations and Sponsorship for Missions Trip to Haiti for Co-Pastor C.Jermane Neal

HAITI

Greetings,

First let me introduce myself. I am Creig Neal. I am an active member of Abundant Life Christian Center, located in Raleigh North Carolina. I am taking my first missions trip to Haiti, June 16th-22nd. I am excited that I have finally been given the opportunity to go overseas and help someone that is in need. One of my main reasons for wanting to go on this Mission trip is to experience for myself what it is like to live in a poverty infested country. I believe upon my return, I will view life in a different way and appreciate more the simple things in life that we as Americans take for granted. I have warned others that will be traveling with me to be prepared because I know I will be crying the majority of the trip. My heart goes out to anyone that wants to do better, but don’t have the means to do better.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80% of the population living under the poverty line and 54% in abject poverty. Employment rate is 30% and illiteracy rate is 48%. Two-thirds of all Haitians depend on the agricultural sector, mainly small-scale subsistence farming, and remain vulnerable to damage from frequent natural disasters, exacerbated by the country's widespread deforestation. While the economy has recovered in recent years, registering positive growth since 2005, four tropical storms (Tropical Storm Fay, Hurricane Gustav, Hurricane Hanna and Hurricane Ike) in 2008 severely damaged the transportation infrastructure and agricultural sector. Bodies continued to surface as the flood waters receded with over three hundred and thirty one (331) dead and eight hundred thousand (800,000) in need of humanitarian aid. The average life expectancy is 52 years.

We as a group have been gathering clothes and non-perishable food to ship and distribute. While in Haiti, we will have church services, food and clothing (toiletry) distribution, as well as classes to help the men, women and children with everyday hygiene and health patterns. Two Registered Nurses will be traveling with us to help assist in these areas. Although we are going as a group from our church, this trip is all self-paid. Therefore, I am in need of some financial help.
