From Get Over It!!! A Down to earth Look at the Issues of Christian Divorce and Remarriage

Lack of forgiveness and bitterness are two of the most obvious of the emotions to detect. The person who angrily says, "I will never remarry" needs to examine himself/herself for unforgivenss and bitterness. They feel abandoned, rejected and violated by their spouse. They think to themselves; "I can't believe this person did this to me." It is easy for someone to tell a person to let go og hurts and forgive their ex-spouses. It is far more difficult for that person to actually do. Yet, if you are going to be whole, if you want to stay in right fellowship with God, you must learn to forgive youe ex-spouse of whatever the offense. "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us."...

The lack of forgiveness and bitterness will cause the person to withdraw with the intension of never allowing themselves to be volnerable again. We mentally tell ourselves that, "My spouse hurt me, so I will not open myself up to allow someone else to hurt me." The harm and hinderance of this attitude is that we become so guarded that even if God sent someone into their life, we would reject that person. Even harder to deal with is the situation wherein it is God's plane for the couple to reconcile. "After what me spouse did to me, God you want me to take them back? I don't think so! God you must have lost your mind!" The lack of forgiveness and bitterness will cause a person to reject God's will for them."
