Gaining Control Of Our Health Will Result In A New Year And A New You

Greetings my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ.
As Pastor of New Birth M.B. Church, and a concerned community acivist, I am deeply concerned with the neglect of our individual health care in our community and nation.
I have continued to hear all of the excuses that we as a people use when it comes to changing our life styles and eating habits. Some say to take control of our health by purchasing gymn memberships, eating healthy such as buying lean meats etc. is expensive. But yet we don't think about the expense when we shop for clothing items we don't need, or etertainment centers and video games, or even the cost of going out to dinner.
As a body of Christ we are to be reminded that our bodies are not ours to abuse the way we do by practicing eating unhealthy, lack of excercise etc. The Bible teaches us in 1 Corinthians 3:16; "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"
The rise in Diabetes and High Blood Pressure, Cancer of all kind in the African American Community compared to other ethnic groups is alarming. Although the economic condition of our country has a lot to do with it, resulting in families having no health insurance, there are still ways that we can show our responsibilty to how we take care of our bodies.

Please take a look at this article that will help you with your choices in how you eat each day. If you begin today and apply this to your life , your whole lifestyle in regards to your health will bring some positive changes that we all need.

It’s tradition to have plenty of food during the winter season we are now in. It is is even something we include during a national past time known as the SUPER BOWL. After this period it is extended through Black History Month. And by the end of the feasting, come Spring time, you can usually bet on having gained an average of 1 to 10 pounds. So much for your weight loss goals. I must admit at times I to fall in this category but I have found out how to over come this and concentrate on eating healthy and livng a healthy life.
Well, according to a just accepted for publication in 2010, you might still be able to enjoy all those seasonal flavors without piling on the weight. Just eat very slowly.

Could it really be that simple? Apparently so—at least with ice cream. The researchers found that subjects who ate 1¼ cups of ice cream over an entire 30 minutes were most likely to feel satisfied when the ice cream was gone, but subjects who “wolfed down” the same amount were more likely to want more and overeat.

How does it work? It’s a brain thing..

As you eat food, appetite-regulating hormones are produced in your stomach. Unfortunately, it’s all too easy to eat so fast that your stomach can’t deliver the message in time. Eating over a longer period gives the hormones the chance to signal your brain that you’re “full”.

According to Susie Rockway, Ph.D., Isagenix director of nutritional sciences,“It can take about 20 minutes for the gut’s hormones to reach the blood and then to the hypothalamic satiety center of the brain.”

So, to keep the pounds off, don’t just enjoy your Hickory Smoked Barbeque Ribs, your deep fried Turkey, or your Apple pie or sweet potatoe pie, savor every slow bite.
