Happy Mother’s Day- "Recipe for the Holidays"-s. dukes'poetry dedicated to mothers that are gone & those far away from home.

Happy Mother’s Day
For those who are far away from home or whose mothers, grandmothers and mother-figure in our lives has passed

Thank You for the Mother’s Day Greeting and God Bless You. I remember how it was when I lived abroad, Germany included, the loneliness and melancholy I would experience on holidays, especially Mother’s Day. So dear brother, I am going to leave you and your fellow- soldiers, your comrades in arms with this excerpt from a poem in my soon to be published book of poetry:

RECIPE FOR THE HOLIDAYS- by Sandra Dukes

I was feeling kind of melancholy
as holidays make me do
When I came up on a treasure of recipes
A gift from them and now my gift to you

Big Mama's Gumbo boiling in a pot,
Aunt Alice's Sausage Gravy with Fluffy Biscuits to sop,
Mudear,s Turkey and Cornbread Dressing the trimmings to boot,
Uncle Bill's dandelion wine;
Aunt Fannie’s Keep on Bill “act a fool see if I don't shoot.”
Aunt Hattie’s Authentic Tamales when Mexico was really Mexico
handed down from generation to generation or so the story goes.
Mama Lee's Mustards and Turnips with Cracklin Hot Water Cornbread
Uncle Bud's How To Cook A Coon .
And Ms. Lizzie's three egg cornbread.
Uncle Billy and Troleon playing dominoes, slammed so hard Mother's cake fell;
along with Aunt Toot's Self -Rising Rolls
Louise dancing in the middle of the flo,
snapping her fingers blues on the radio.
Miss Elgie's Chittlins ,
Miss Tiba's Ham, Sweet Potatoe Pies and Marshmallow stuffed yams.
Cousin Gen's China all snowy and white,
a wash woman ,a maid who set a table of delight.

I was feeling kind of melancholy
as holidays make me do
When I came up on a treasure of recipes
A gift from them and now my gift to you

You have a Beautiful/ Meaningful title - I sent you an invitation in your inbox to several literary sites that may be beneficial to your endeavors. Yes that is home cooking and real people and situations. One Mother's Day I was visiting my mother's birthplace. I was feeling sad,my mother,my friend was gone.I started to pray and then I started to praise God for the mother He gave to me. Through the tears of joy the spirit woman rose up in me and began to write from rememberance of the Mother Days past. The next day, Mother's Day, everyone in church rejoiced in God's anointing of His creative power for the memories of their love ones , He allowed to flow. To God Always I will Give the Glory ! I am His vessel, His servant and I praise His Holy , Holy Name. Amen. ( For the Word in me Is the God in me)
